Job Purpose.
The Construction Manager will be a highly experienced mining industry executive to take a copper-gold project through construction and commissioning phases. The project involves the construction of five open cut mines, a processing plant, a camp, and all associated infrastructure.
The role requires a history of achievement of previous construction roles in mineral processing industries. The incumbent will also need skills in working with multi-cultural work groups, and be able to communicate effectively with diverse cultural teams.
MAIN TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Liase and guide the EPCM contractor and their sub-contractors.
Ensure good relationships are maintained between Client and the EPCM contractor.
Ensure communication between Client and Contractor stays open and all required information is shared between the Client and work groups.
Routine reporting of project progress (budget, schedule, quality) milestones to Client management.
Report any variations for the project (HSEC, budget, schedule, quality) to Client management in a prompt manner. Take action where necessary.
Identify any areas for improvement and flag them to the contractor and/or Client management as required.
Lead the Owners team and direct resources as required to effectively oversee the EPCM contract.
Lead client managed construction activities that may occur outside of the main EPCM contract.
Champion risk-based management of the project for the Owners team. Lead initiatives for hazard identification and risk reduction such as HAZOPs, risk assessments, inspections. Involve all participants including the EPCM contractor and their sub-contractors.
Ensure that all HSE instructions are fully understood and complied with.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical) or mining related qualifications preferred but not essential. Postgraduate qualification in Business Studies or Project Management an advantage
Minimum 10 years of experience in mining construction management with at least 5 years as the lead construction position.
Experience in establishing new teams, people, and systems an advantage.
Experience in processing plant exceeding 2.5 million tonnes
Experience with delivery construction projects in the mineral processing industry, particularly in projects of greater than OMR 100million (USD $260million) capex
