Project Estimator
LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY
Seeking a Project Estimator with CAPEX project responsibility. This role will primarily function is to provide estimating function for multiple site manufacturing projects up to $10MM and is accountable for achieving cost goals on assigned projects. Candidate must be highly motivated to support multiple projects from concept through start-up with a cross functional team.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Estimator supports all current and future capital projects. These projects are typically of small to medium scope with focus in the areas of environmental compliance, plant reliability, plant availability and plant efficiency. This position is responsible for preparing all cost estimates at required accuracies to support the Project Stage Gate process and Site Capital.
TARGETED OUTCOMES
• Deliver and Lead accurate estimates and reviews.
• Detailed reporting.
• Proper Documentation.
• Design, put into practice, and lead use of best-in-class work processes for all aspects of estimating.
• Projects that meet the Cost, Quality, and Schedule commitments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for development and standardization of conceptual estimating process for AACE Class 5 (conceptual), 4 (feasibility) and 3 (control) project estimates.
• Estimate multiple disciplines, strongly on Process design, fixed equipment, instrument and electrical.
• Understand power distribution and controls systems and how they relate to new and revamp work.
• Maintains standard estimating template & estimate basis documents for clear communication of total project costs to project teams and plant leadership.
• Develops and maintains key estimating assumptions.
• Benchmark project estimates against historical and industry data and internal/external indices
• Conduct post project audits to identify and implement accuracy and productivity improvements
• Assists with the implementation, collection, data storage, and publishing of project metrics.
• Responsible to complete estimates in support of project schedules.
• Advises contract companies how to prepare estimates.
• Validates subcontract estimates for specialty services.
• Develops contingency methodology and assists project management in assessing appropriate percentage to utilize on different Class estimates and risk basis of execution plans.
• Prepare and Lead estimate reviews with Leadership and Project Team.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in project management, engineering, or construction.
• Minimum 8 years in project estimating in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• ASPEN estimating experience a plus
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in supplementing Class 5 estimates with Kbase volume metric models along with detailed quantities to develop a complete Total Installed Cost estimate.
• Experience in field construction and/or EPC contractor environments is a plus.
• Experience in team leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills.
DESIRED CERTIFICATION
• Professional estimating certification by AACE International preferred.
• PMI Project Management Professional certification not a requirement, but a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Excellent organizational, leadership and change agent influence skills.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
• Excellent team management and relationship building skills.
• Knowledge of the different estimating tools and methods utilized by industry.
• Strong sense of ownership and a drive to achieve results.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization and time management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task.
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Problem solving (predict, prevent, and resolve)
• Experience developing Class 5, 4, and 3 estimates for micro project to large capital projects ($500M+).
• Strong skills on Cleopatra Capital Cost Estimator/In-Plant Cost Estimator (KBase) and SAP is a plus.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in Excel and experience with Microsoft PowerBI is a plus.
• Proactive leadership and team-building skills with the ability to work effectively throughout the organization in a fast-paced matrix-structured reporting organization.
• Ability to understand how to influence business objectives within department and across site.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required. Project experience and alternative education could be considered for candidates in leu of a bachelor’s degree.
