The client, a major O&G operator, is currently recruiting for a Senior Tax Adviser on a Staff or PAYE contract basis. Based in Aberdeen, UK.
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Working with the Tax Manager to provide tax advice in relation to all UK tax matters and any ongoing commercial and business development activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Providing guidance and advice to the business with regards to Employment taxes, including dealing with external advisors.
• Leading tax audits (internal/external).
• Reviewing of annual corporation tax return, Petroleum Revenue Tax returns, PAYE Settlement Agreement, tax accounting processes, tax payment calculations etc. for ultimate sign off by the Tax Manager.
• Working closely with other members of the Tax Department (particularly the Tax Manager as well as the Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Analysts), responsibility for reviewing and ensuring the execution of all tax returns and review processes for Corporate Income Tax, Petroleum Revenue Tax, and other taxes.
• Participating in, and supporting, specialist Tax or wider Finance initiatives and projects.
• Developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with Bratani and Global business units, UK tax authorities, external advisors, and joint venture partners.
• Working with other members of the Tax and Finance Department, responsibility for reviewing monthly tax accruals and related accounting treatment prepared by the Tax Accountant/Senior Tax Analysts.
• Working with other members of the Tax and Finance Department, responsibility for reviewing the annual and quarterly tax budget / forecast with additional responsibility for revising annual accounting judgements.
• Coaching the other members of the tax team on all matters, including, but not limited to, upstream tax knowledge, coaching on internal tax accounting process and tax return preparation.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING
Essential
• Degree level educated
• Relevant accounting qualification, preferably ICAS/ICAEW
Preferred
• CIOT qualification.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Essential
• Strong tax background and experience
• Excellent knowledge of UK upstream taxation and proven experience
• Excellent tax accountancy experience and knowledge in accounting for current and deferred taxation - this is a key requirement.
• Excellent experience and knowledge of UK tax legislation and conversant with all aspects of UK tax computations
• Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and tax software packages for tax return preparation
• Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships – at all levels - and to achieve a high level of professional and personal credibility
Preferred
• Relevant experience gained in oil and gas industry.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
• Strong communication skills, including presentation skills
• High level of Excel spreadsheet experience and skill
• Good report-writing skills
• Strong organisation and planning skills with ability to manage workload in a structured manner
