Job Purpose:

  • To support the FEC effort in delivering construction, coordination and commissioning of the Instrument and Control scopes in the drilling fluids handling, ESP installation, PF1 Third Train installation and Gas Injection programs. The Instrument and Control site Superintendent liaises with the COMPANY Engineering team, and coordinates with the contractors at site, to ensure that the Instrument and Control scope is delivered to the expected standards and schedule. The Superintendent provides feedback to COMPANY Engineering for the subsequent Instrument and Control scopes.
  • The Superintendent takes every opportunity to monitor, train and coach contractor personnel. He makes himself available for any formal or informal training sessions organized by COMPANY.


Responsibilities and Key Objectives:

The company requires an experienced Instrumentation and Control Site Superintendent capable of managing and leading Instrument and Control contractors on behalf of the Company for imminent plant upgrades. The Instrumentation and Control Site Superintendent will be directed primarily by the site-based Construction Manager. Technical oversight and guidance will be provided by the Erbil based Instrument and Control Technical Authority. As an experienced supervisor the individual is expected to work with limited supervision and undertake Instrument and Control upgrades as required.

Key Responsibilities and Competencies include:

  • Supervising Instrument and Control contractors to ensure work site preparation and efficiency with job scopes.
  • Planning of Instrument and Control installation schedules and reporting on progress to line management.
  • A full understanding of the requirements of a Work Permit System and capable of working to raise and sign off such.
  • Worksite preparations, risk assessments and safe isolation of field instrumentation and Control Systems prior to issue of permits. Conduct toolbox talks ensuring safe and satisfactory contractor engagement.
  • Prior experience with an Operator is desirable.
  • Ensure site work completion in accordance with the latest revision of “Issued for Construction” (IFC) drawings.
  • Solid experience of PLC systems, Fire and Gas Systems, Process instrumentation, Control Valves, ESDVs, Wellhead Control Panels, Hydraulic Control Systems and Oil Metering
  • Experience in working with High H2S gas process systems
  • Leading and troubleshooting site-based commissioning activities such as loop checks, cause and effect testing, instrument loop tuning and preparation of test/handover documentation.
  • Preparation of “Red-line” as-build mark ups on completion of site construction and commissioning activities.
  • Provide timely completion of any raised punch items.
  • Full understanding of Instrument and Control design documentation and associated Codes and Standards.
  • Support the Erbil based Instrument Technical Authority and participate in design, risk and constructability reviews for upcoming development projects.
  • Proactively managing and ensuring a good site-based Instrument and Control safety culture.
  • Training and coaching of other Operations & Maintenance personnel, spontaneously or in coordination with the Operations Training Coordinator.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 10-15 years direct, relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Good communication and ability to work as part of a multi-discipline and multi-cultural team. Ability to work with hard reporting lines and dotted-line responsibilities.
  • Excellent levels of written and spoken English, Kurdish, and Arabic language.
  • Computer literate and knowledgeable in relevant Codes and Specifications.
  • Essential to have a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in Upstream environment.
  • Qualified to HNC level or Local scheme backed up by a recognized apprenticeship and extensive training.
  • Effective and supportive team member.
