The valued client is seeking a Laboratory Technician based in Fort McMurray, AB. This is a 6-month contract position on a 14/14 rotation, 12 hour days, FIFO.

Overview of the Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will oversee all analytical operations, conduct regular internal QA/QC audits and reports on gaps found, monitor QA/QC procedures on a daily basis, ensure QA/QC lab analysis procedures are correct and followed and ensure appropriate test methods and standards are applied and measurement quality objectives are met. In this role, you will perform various analysis not limited to the following: Ph., turbidity, conductivity, hardness, alkalinity, sulphites, chlorides, bitumen-in-water using equipment such as Hach Spectrometer, Turner Fluorescence Meter, Titration Probes etc.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supports and comply with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of our clients Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System.
  • Oversees all analytical operations.
  • Provides necessary training to operations staff when needed.
  • Assists in developing site specific operating practices.
  • Ensures QA/QC lab analysis procedures are correct and followed.
  • Ensures appropriate test methods and standards are applied and measurement quality objectives are met.
  • Monitors QA/QC procedures on a daily basis.
  • Performs spot checks of analysis data and investigates/report any inconsistencies.
  • Conducts regular internal QA/QC audits and reports on gaps found.
  • Laboratory facility is to be kept clean and in a safe and functional condition and all laboratory supplies and expendables are available and in stock
Skills and Experience Required:
  • 5-7 years of previous experience as a Laboratory Technician
  • Must be able to provide more technical/functional support than administrative support.
  • Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of technology, applications, terminology, and procedures required of job function.
  • Must be eligible to live and work in Canada.
