BHP Billiton has submitted the winning bid to acquire a 60 per cent participating interest and operatorship of an oil reserve containing the Trion discovery located in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico. PEMEX Exploration & Production Mexico (Pemex) will retain a 40 per cent interest in the blocks.

For Drilling and Completions, this work will focus on planning and execution of a multiple well work program on the Trion discovery in 8,000ft water depth. Planning work will include development of a comprehensive campaign plan with identification of critical path activities to completion of first well; close interface with Pemex and government regulators.

This Completions Engineer role provides overall engineering support to the operation from the office, shore-base, and rig, and has responsibility for well planning, costing and operations for on the rig.

This person must be willing to relocate to Mexico City.

Engineering:

  • Provides completion design input to the Basis of Completion Design (BOCD), including the formation evaluation program
  • Reviews offset wells and Lessons Learned for input to subsequent well designs and programs
  • Prepares and presents detailed Well Design Review to the project team and management
  • Prepares portions of completions program, critical elements list, load out list, contingency plans, and MOCs
  • Designs well stimulation in conjunction with BHP and service companies' SMEs
  • Perform tubing stress analysis for well life cycle
  • Ability to run torque and drag models
  • Assist in selection, testing of completion components to meet BOCD requirements
  • Works with the BHP Billiton metallurgist to ensure metal selections meet well design requirements
  • Works with the BHP Billiton subsea engineers to incorporate subsea engineering procedures into program and operations
  • Leads portions of:
    • Post-well or post-campaign review
    • Operational time estimates for input to AFE estimate
    • New completion tool technology evaluations and recommendations
    • Well integrity and barrier analysis
    • Completion input to subsurface and production program
Operations:

  • Reviews daily activity reports to ensure accuracy and appropriate level of detail
  • Participates in rig-based audits, in support of the Superintendent and HSE Supervisor
  • Participates in After Action Reviews and ensures Lessons Learned are captured
  • Liaises with Supply to ensure timely delivery of equipment and services to meet operational requirements
  • Assists in managing service companies and ensures compliance with contracts
  • Participate in service company Performance Reviews
  • Evaluate and progress continuous improvement opportunities
  • Responsible for retention of critical well records (CEL, tallies, trip sheets, etc.)
  • Review of well designs and operational plans at well/pad kick-off meetings
  • Supporting operations on a daily basis, ensuring program is followed, and anticipating potential problems
  • Evaluating requirements for program changes and raising MOCs as required
  • Identifying potential problems and preparing contingency programs as required
  • Making recommendations on improvement opportunities
  • Well handover process
Costs:

  • Assists in the preparation of well cost estimates, including accurate cost estimate for AFE generation
  • Closely tracks costs during operations
  • Proposes cost reduction initiatives and drives savings
  • Reconciling AFE vs final tracked costs, investigates variances, and updates cost model as required
  • Raising requisitions and approving invoices in a timely manner
Supply:

  • Specifies completion equipment for procurement
  • Evaluation of tenders to ensure the best services are contracted at competitive rates
  • Inputs and scope of work to tender documents for third party services
Quality Assurance:

  • Provides engineering input to quality plans for equipment and service tools
  • Ensuring equipment and service tools are manufactured and prepared to QP
  • Write failure investigation reports and non-compliance reports
Risks:

  • Understands Material Risk Bowties, Critical Controls, and Performance Standards and verifies compliance
  • Assists in preparation of well and operational risk assessments
Health, Safety, and Environmental:

  • Participates in HSE incident investigations
  • Participate in behavior-based safety programs
  • Building HSE into well programs
  • Well and operational risk assessments
  • Barrier analyses
Regulatory and Joint Venture:

  • Assist in liaising with JVP's on planning and operations
  • Permit applications, documentation and submissions to regulators
  • Compliance with all applicable regulations
Development:

  • Drives own technical and professional development
  • Guides the technical and professional development of junior engineers on the team
  • Mentors and trains office based engineers to where they are able to work independently
About you:

  • Engineering degree (Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical) preferred
  • 5+ years in the Drilling, Completion and Well Intervention industry, 2+ years wellsite supervision preferred; engineering and/or operations experience with different well types and/or campaigns. Spanish speaking is preferred.
