Project Lifting & Hoisting SME / Lead


Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Build and maintain a strong, collaborative working relationship with the project EPCM, relevant Construction team members and relevant Contractors and Subcontractors on the project.
  • Work with EPCM and L&H Technical Authority to provide feedback and proactive efforts for L&H.
  • In conjunction with the EPCM, actively participate in investigating crane and lifting related incidents and implementing associated corrective action plans.
  • Evaluate Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM) potential consequences for all L&H incidents that occur on the project.
  • Reviewing and providing technical input into equipment changes initiated by field locations.
  • As applicable, work with the EPCM to executing centrally managed lifting and hoisting systems inspections and repair programs.
  • Auditing field activities against project L&H requirements and performance standard compliance and assisting in follow-up.
  • In conjunction with EPCM, ensure lifting and hoisting system operations and maintenance requirements are being complied with.
  • Review and provide input to lift planning activities.
  • In conjunction with EPCM, ensure that there is an effective competency verification process for all crane operators and riggers on the project.
  • Provide assurance on the planning & execution of bull rigging activities, and the competency of individuals involved in these activities.
  • Provide assurance on the planning & execution of heavy haul activities, and the competency of individuals involved in these activities.
  • Provide input on the utilization of lifting & hoisting equipment. This may include tracking utilization data, as well as optimization of equipment type & placement
  • Be a resource/coach to area project Construction and HSSE teams, particularly as regards the numerous routine lifts expected going forward.
  • Host the project bi-weekly L&H Goal Zero meeting as well as HH/HL contractor progress reviews on the project.


Key Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • 10-15 years L&H experience, with 3-5 years on major projects (projects exceeding $1 Billion)
  • Knowledge on mobile cranes (hydraulic and lattice boom cranes) and tower cranes to include load charts, set-up, proper inspection, and proper operation.
  • Rigging training
  • Complete knowledge of lifting and hoisting, L&H regulatory laws and industry standards with the ability to interpret to day to day operations.
  • Effective intervention and influencing skills.
  • Above average computer skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with Mobile Cranes (crawler, truck & telescoping) and tower crane load charts.
  • Complete knowledge of L&H standards with the ability to interpret to day to day operations.
  • Excellent communication skills dealing with line workers and senior leaders.
  • Teaching and coaching skills with best practices from around the businesses.
  • Effective intervention and influencing skills.
  • Above average computer skills.

  • A major project in a fairly constrained geographical area with a broad and diverse customer base of EPCM / Contractor / Subcontractor that demands consistency in implementation of lifting and hoisting standards.
  • These lifting and hoisting operations represent some of our highest project risk work and it is considered critical to deliver best HSE performance.
  • Effective interventions in at-risk behaviors and practices - influencing project stakeholders (EPCM / Contractor / Subcontractor) to do the right thing amongst cost and critical timeline demands.
