The client, a large oil and gas company, is currently seeking a Cost Control Advisor for a 1 year contract in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Shutdown and Outages Superintendent, the Cost Control Advisor contributes to effective shutdown cost control performance for shutdowns and outages by providing work order mapping for the event to ensure costs are being allocated correctly. Provides support to Shutdown & Outage team and stewards cost and schedule analysis, reporting, forecasting and budgeting. Provide real time, daily cost reporting during each event.

Reporting to the Shutdown and Outages Superintendent, the Cost Control Advisor contributes to effective shutdown cost control performance for shutdowns and outages by providing work order mapping for the event to ensure costs are being allocated correctly. Provides support to Shutdown & Outage team and stewards cost and schedule analysis, reporting, forecasting and budgeting. Provide real time, daily cost reporting during each event.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:
Reporting to the Shutdown and Outages Superintendent, the Cost Control Advisor contributes to effective shutdown cost control performance for shutdowns and outages by providing work order mapping for the event to ensure costs are being allocated correctly. Provides support to Shutdown & Outage team and stewards cost and schedule analysis, reporting, forecasting and budgeting. Provide real time, daily cost reporting during each event.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Cost Controls activities during the Shutdown/Outage event including:
- Work with the team to develop and document event cost estimates, and budgets
- Develop work order mapping for the event and ensure costs are being allocated correctly
- Provide real time, daily cost reporting during each event.
- Interface with Project teams on cost allocations from the event
- Analyze cost trends, develop and review forecasts
- Provide Superintendent and Shutdown Coordinators guidance on forecast development and assist in determining event forecasts
- Assist in preparation of cost reports (budgets, forecasts, expenditures, commitments)
- Assist Cost Trackers in review of actual invoice bookings
- Monitor and report on cost implications of changes
- Benchmark event competitiveness position against forecasted cost
- Coordinate interfaces between team and Contractors to enable contractor cost performance:
- Proactively identify issues, remove roadblocks, and implement corrective action plans
- Coordinate and participate in development of event deliverables
- Verify contractor work processes for cost reporting and control are in place and procedures are followed
- Proactively raise to the Superintendent and Shutdown Coordinators when the contractor teams are not meeting contractual requirements (ie. contractor deliverables, cost reports, etc.)
- Monitor and appraise contractor’s cost performance and advise corrective actions to be taken where deficiencies are detected; verify actions are taken
- Take an active role in value-based contracting
- Participate in contract commercial bid evaluations (as required)
- Review and endorse field change order estimates (as required)
- Develop proactive cost forecasts based on progress and change control processes
- Identify and raise cost and change control issues to the Superintendent and Shutdown Coordinators
- Ensure Execution progress measurement plans are in place & utilized
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
- Superior knowledge of accounting practices with SAP with emphasis on large scale Shutdown and Project implementation
- Understanding of project/turnaround execution practices, theories and concepts with an emphasis on cost or project controls engineering
- 3 + years experience in project/turnaround activities related to oil and gas production and development
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic; self-motivated with excellent work organization skills
