The Role: C&I Engineer

 

Location: Staythorpe Power Station (between Southwell and Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire)

Description:
As the C&I Engineer you will provide the expertise and assistance to ensure that the correct standard of engineering is applied to all aspects of operational, maintenance and engineering work at Staythorpe Power Station. You will also provide technical support within the fields of control systems and instrumentation maintenance and engineering to all of the stations departments. This support is expected to involve an element of ‘hands-on’ engineering. Although your base location will be Staythorpe, occasional travel to other RWE sites may be required on request.

 

Role Accountabilities:
Providing technical support daily to the operational and maintenance teams, fault diagnosis, rectification and improvement. This will involve ‘hands-on’, control system IT maintenance, instrumentation engineering and software support.
Line management responsibilities for two Maintenance Technicians, including all HR tasks.
Engaging and assisting appropriate specialist maintenance and engineering support, internal and external.
Working on and delivery of Control and Instrumentation Engineering projects and development of C&I capabilities throughout the station.
Setting the engineering standards to ensure station compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements
Developing the plant asset strategies for control system and instrumentation engineering equipment, based upon the station’s C&I strategy, safety and commercial risk assessment.
Role of Technical Officer for contracts including outage activities.
Identifying Plant Improvements and contributing to relevant scheme papers
Contributing to the station’s plant history/plant status documentation system.
Inputting to the Systems Modification procedure
Lead the C&I Technicians and technical management of the C&I craft staff
Act as first point of contact for C&I related major plant issues out of hours, which will involve telephone support and occasional site attendance.

 

Skills & Experience:
You will possess in depth knowledge and a practical experience of automated control systems, industrial networking, field instrumentation and final elements.
Possess a good appreciation of power plant operational processes and continuous control systems.
You will hold an engineering qualification to the minimum level of HNC or equivalent in an electrical/electronic/control or relevant engineering discipline.
Be competent in contract management and contractor supervision.
You should be commercially aware and capable of operating with the minimum of guidance and supervision, and be able to communicate effectively at all levels.
You will be highly motivated, well-organised and be capable of providing support to the greater station team
You will also be fully committed and flexible to meet the business requirements as this role will involve out of hours working and weekend working.
