Senior Design Engineer - Global Oil and Gas Supplier / England

Senior Project Design Engineer- 6 month contract – Reading

The company are a global oil and gas supplier who recently developed a unique new division to deliver their patented product to market. The team designs, manufactures and supplies oil cells to the market which will result in improved powertrain efficiency, improved serviceability and substantial environmental benefits.

The Core Technology team produce concept ready designs that will provide solutions for both existing and future customer and market needs. The client are currently working towards mass production scale up and launch of their first high volume passenger car application. As a design engineer, you will work across multiple customer programmes to provide design support and leadership.


Responsibilities

• Design architect / design authority for the new components and assembly
• Generation of CAD models, manufacturing drawings, management of the CAD system and design release process
• Design calculations, FMEA, structural modelling and fluid modelling using proprietary CAE tools
• Lead the interface and management of component suppliers to complete Cost Engineering (CE) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities at component and system level
• Ownership of the BoM and material release schedule for parts ordering and build
• Support for key engineering deliverables in stage gate product development process
• The ability to identify the correct functional expertise and securing their support to assist in advancing the project.
• Developing concept ready technology into validated production ready designs within the time and budget restrictions of a commercial product development activity.
• Providing leadership, adaptability and good behaviours in the dynamic environment of a small team as it transitions from a start-up towards becoming an established automotive Tier I supplier.

 
Essential

• Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
• At least 3 years’ experience within the automotive industry or a product development environment
• Comprehensive knowledge and competence in mechanical design and the development of new automotive technology.
• Experience of management and execution of complex engineering development projects within time and resource constraints.
• Knowledge of production engineering activities including Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Cost Engineering (CE).
• Broad knowledge of automotive technology and mechanical design
• CAD design in CATIA / NX / Solidworks
• Component or product design and development
• Working within teams to develop engineering products from concept through to production according to a stage gate development process
• Knowledge and understanding of automotive industry development processes
• Experience working as an interface role with suppliers and customers

 
 
Desirable

• Experience of managing the design and development of plastic based under- bonnet engine components (sumps, oil filter housings, inlet manifolds etc.)
• Knowledge of internal combustion engine systems, engine lubrication systems and hydraulics
• An analytical approach to decision making
• Experience of working effectively in teams as both a contributor and as a leader
