Contracts Engineer

Principal Duties/Responsibilities
* Ensures that all contracting activities are carried out in accordance with the Joint Ventures' procurement policies and procedures, policies on business conduct and health safety and environment ("HSE") policies.
* Works to ensure "best value" is obtained for the Client in all areas where Supply Chain Management has an opportunity to influence.
* Is intimately involved in all aspects of the contracting process including, but not necessarily limited to:
o Contributes to the development of sound commercial contracting strategies.
o Contributes to the development of sound services procurement policies, procedures, contract templates.
o Advises customers, as required, on contract interpretation.
o Leads development of & administers invitations to tender.
o Leads the evaluation process and leads and participates in commercial evaluations of bids.
o Leads or participates in negotiations on terms & conditions.
o Leads preparation and award of the eventual contract.
o Coaches customers on processes, policy & procedures.
o Contributes from time-to-time in contractor performance management.
* Works closely with line personnel to ensure that best contracting practices are adhered to.
* Reinforces the importance of HSE and strives to ensure the delivery of exceptional safety performance.
* Seeks to ensure that all personal activity is performed safely and seeks to influence others similarly.
* Provides coaching to both national CEs and line personnel in the procurement process and procedure, in the application of contractual terms and in contractor performance management.
* Develops, maintains and fosters effective business relationships with customer departments.
* Seeks to improve the performance of Supply Chain Management Department in general and the Contracts Team in particular.

Firm requirements:
* Is fluent in French and English (both spoken and written).
* Possesses relevant tertiary education qualification (e.g. university degree, UK CIPS, UK IACCM, UK RICS or equivalents).
* Possesses strong interpersonal & communication skills.
* 5+ years of experience in the contracting/ procurement process and contract drafting.
* A logical & analytical person who enjoys and rises to new challenges.
* A confident decision maker who is able to plan & implement workload with minimal supervision, under pressure, to meet deadlines.
* Computer literate in MS Word and Outlook (or equivalents) and conversant with the use of Excel & PowerPoint (or equivalent) applications.
* Displays the ability to work well with alternates (rotation partners) to present a seamless customer-facing position.
* Is meticulous and thorough in his/her work.
* Has a good understanding of gas or oil exploration & production.
* Leads by example - particularly in terms of work habits, HSE & ethics.
* Strongly self- motivated.

Desirable Skills/ Experiences:
* Experience of working or living in countries abroad, preferably in hostile/remote locations.
* Direct experience with an "operator" company in the oil and gas "upstream".
* Relevant tertiary education qualification in a commercial/ business subject.
* Competent in Arabic (spoken and written).

The Contracts Engineer will work 12 hours per day on a 28/28 rotation.

The Contracts Engineer will report to the Contracts Superintendents and will be responsible for supporting the service contracting requirements of production operations.
