Laboratory Technician
Job description
1) Execute corrosion experiments
- work with low concentrations of H2S
- use bench- top and pilot-scale corrosion testing equipment
2) Be on-call (nights, weekends) to come in without delay and reset tests if there is a power interruption
3) Participate in safety reviews and discussions
4) Work in close collaboration with an engineer
Experience required
At least 5 years industrial experience as a laboratory technician
Operation of laboratory equipment at pressures of 1000 psig and temperatures of 200oC
Working safely and knowing when to stop/intervene
Perform basic laboratory practices, e.g.
Skills Required
Knowledge and proper use of personal protective equipment
Ability to read/interpret safety data sheets and how to act in keeping with associated safety requirements
Safe operation in a laboratory
Able to follow detailed experimental procedures meticulously
Mechanical aptitude
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multitask
Rapid learning
Problem-solving mindset
Ability to recognize opportunities for improving experiments
Operation of both small-scale and large-scale laboratory equipment
Understanding of process flow, P&IDs, and interactions amongst components in an experimental system
Strong communication skills
Use of computer interfaces for experiments and basic computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word)
Experience/skills preferred
Operation of electrochemical equipment, e.g., resistance probes, electrodes, potentiostats
Previous corrosion testing would be an advantage
