Principal Stratigrapher / Australia

Position Principal Stratigrapher     

• This position is for 6 months on a 3 days per week (average) basis.

          Position Primary Objective

Undertake detailed stratigraphic interpretation of shelf and basin facies in the Browse Basin, to provide insights into the structural and stratigraphic history of the Browse Basin Margin.  Ultimately leading to a re-interpretation of the Brewster and Plover Formations distribution in the Basin.
Additionally, the role will mentor geoscience staff raising overall technical expertise of the Perth Office. The role requires a very high level of skill in stratigraphic interpretation, interpretation.            

Key Result Area Primary Responsibilities    

Occupational Health and Safety

• Conduct all activities in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures. 
• Ensure the welfare of personnel and the protection of assets and the environment at all times.
• Support the effective implementation of the office safety management system including participation in emergency drills and procedures as required.

Technical Expertise

• Geological stratigraphic interpretation and evaluation, with a focus on the facies distributions level interpretation.
• Compile presentations and contribute to discussions with the Government and Joint Ventures.
• Integration of multiple seismic data sets (variable offsets, processing flows and vintages)
• Understanding of the geological implications of interpreted stratigraphy horizons.
• Presenting interpretation to Peer groups in Perth and Tokyo
• Provide advice and assistance on to the Manager Geoscience and/or Exploration Manager on regional strategy, permit strategy and permit management matters.

    Leadership

• Contribute to the ongoing development of the structure and systems within, and the ethos of, the Exploration team.
• Provide mentoring of junior geophysicists and other staff.

Project Management 

• Manage the stratigraphic portion of the Regional Browse Basin study.

    Team Work

• Work collaboratively with team members, fostering an open, fair and harmonious workplace.
• Provide advice on interpretation styles and requirements both to the ESE and teams
• Encourage and influence the Inpex geoscientist to elevate the technical rigor.

   
 Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (Geophysics) or similar related geoscience degree

      Skills and Experience requirements

• At least 20 years in the petroleum exploration industry.
• Expertise in the appropriate earth science and petroleum exploration analysis and interpretation software applications.
• Ability to understand and integrate data from a variety of geoscience disciplines.
