The client is currently looking for a Cost Estimator for a one year contract in Calgary, AB
- Ensure that the estimates produced adhere to the clients estimating standard and procedure as outlined by the Project Control governance
- Collaborate with project teams for alternatives to improve project performance, reduce project costs
- Provide mentoring / guidance to estimators from engineering and/or construction contractors.
- Support and participate in the development of a cohesive estimating team and support strong relationships with other groups such as the engineering and/or construction contractor, internal groups, contract resources and other stakeholders related to the project
- Develop high level estimates based on capacity factors, equipment factors for multiple options for early stage estimates.
- Be proficient in civil, structural, piping, equipment, electrical, I&C and EHT disciplines.
- Develop all components of estimate (direct field cost, indirect field cost, engineering, Owner’s cost, completions & commissioning, escalation & contingency)
- Develop labour rate based on type of workforce (Union / non-union), contract type and understand crew team composition for various discipline, impact of shift cycle, crew mix on labour rate.
- Analyze estimates using benchmarking tool, inform and influence stakeholders based on analysis
- Participate in maintaining / updating estimating tools e.g. (K-Base), labour rate, Risk analysis tool (RISCOR), escalation calculation and other internal templates
- Facilitate and participate in all quantitative risk analysis/ADEM gate reviews as assigned.
- Ensure accurate and timely estimates are delivered on the agreed upon dates.
- Attend all corporate required training courses as deem necessary for the position
- Be willing to travel to a site location (overnight) as needed.
- Technical diploma or University degree
- 10+ years related experience
- Exposure to field construction activities for industrial projects.
- Experience in developing high level estimates (Equipment / Capacity factored, internal benchmarks) with limited information for early stages of project
- Strong working knowledge in Aspen-tech (k-Base) estimating program is essential
- Ability to work on yearly update of tools and templates (K- Base, Escalation, Labour rate)
- Ability to work with team members to produce estimating deliverables in a timely manner.
- Good interpersonal, analytical, organizational and communication skills are a must
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential.
- A self starter, able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical skills to compare estimates with internal and external benchmarks
- Ability to provide personal and technical mentorship to junior staff members & extended teams
- Must be able to work on multiple estimates simultaneously
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
