Senior Substation Technician / USA

Install, maintain, repair, and test high voltage electrical equipment in substations including, but not limited to, transformers, circuit breakers, lightning arresters, capacitors. Install, maintain, repair, and test sump pumps, equipment nitrogen systems, station lighting, heating, receptacles and DC control systems. Install and maintain Mobile Transformers.  Performs scheduled substation inspections and routine substation services. Provide oversight of company Personnel, Vendors and Contractors.  Perform planned and emergency high voltage switching and grounding operations to isolate equipment for work in substations. Perform concrete work, pours, slabs, forms. Perform rigging and lifting operations for installation and removal of structures and electrical equipment with a crane truck (JLG). Works from structures at various heights (ladders, aerial lifts, steel grating). Is required to lead technical work in the field to ensure safety, reliability and environmental compliance. Is required to conduct on-the-job training of fellow Sr. Substation Technicians and/ or Substation Technicians. Performs acceptance testing of new substation equipment. Assists others and performs functions such as control wiring repair, troubleshooting equipment and circuit problems, interpreting oil test results, maintaining, testing and repairing high voltage equipment, up to 500 kV. Operates gas dielectric and oil filtering and purifying equipment. Operates construction earth moving equipment, i.e. skid steers, mini-excavator, etc. and oversees vacuum truck soil removal. Uses instruments such as infrared thermographic equipment, meggers, Doble test sets, and capacitance meters, to evaluate equipment and systems. Uses transits, laser levels, control and hand tools to install and maintain physical support structures and electrical equipment. Assures that work conforms to specifications, drawings, safety practices and regulations.
