Main Activities
- The Site Supervisor will conduct the following general activities:
- Site supervision of construction activities and reporting of the progress to project team.
- Oversee and supervise day to day operations of contractor(s), ensuring appliance of approved specifications, standards and procedures.
- Coordinate contractor(s) site activities to ensure efficient and safe progress of the construction activities.
- With Replacement Housing Lead, act as site representative to the Replacement Housing Contractor(s) and to ensure that the construction process and schedule is aligned with the temporary accommodation and transitional livelihoods process.
- Liaise with the Resettlement Implementation Lead to ensure that any schedule impacts associated with the Replacement Housing Construction process are translated into mitigation impacts to ensure that physically displaced PAP’s are not unduly impacted;
- The Site Supervisor will conduct the following specific activities:
- Organise and perform audit of pre-site conditions with involved contractor(s),
- Identify any potential constructability problems at the site and assist contractor(s) in implementing strategies to prevent the issues that may impact safety, quality and project schedule
- Check the Contractors site grid, temporary benchmarks, and establish commencement levels, approve of setting out of the earthworks, drainage and building construction,
- Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure the smooth day to day operation of work activities at the construction sites, monitor and inspect all the construction works to ensure that the quality of materials and workmanship adhere to designs and specifications.
- Report to Replacement Housing lead any change to approved Contractor(s) scope of work, for further approval of the change. Ensure traceability of all changes (whether approved or rejected) in order to ease contract closure at the end of the work.
- Inspect materials/components upon delivery and witness testing of any materials to be used in the works as specified in the contract documents and ensure that the project is executed in compliance with local or state regulations and any change in project plan is executed by contractors.
- Work closely with project architect to ensure quick response to architect demands and to ensure smooth delivery of required documentation to contractor(s).
- Review contract documents, architectural drawings and specification in order to maintain familiarity with project and assure construction contractors understanding of the documents.
- Liaise with the Replacement Housing Lead if there is any outstanding information required by the Contractor.
- Attend Contractor(s) Daily Site meetings and Tool Box talks, overview of safety and security (HSE) and monitor of site workers on safety procedures at the site and make sure that they adhere strictly to the safety standards, reporting any incidents to HSE representative and N+1.
- Keep site records according to the established reporting requirements including progress of works, working conditions and weather, delays, instructions by the Design Consultant, site labor employed and visitors to project sites. Submit field reports to Replacement Housing Lead, covering on-site issues, inspection findings, overall progress, HSE and any potential risks to construction completion.
- Record and report all potential lessons learned and ways for improvement to Replacement Housing Lead, in order to maintain a lessons learned journal for future phases of the project.
- Take site measurements wherever required, check progress and completion levels, and endorse the Day Works sheets.
Accountabilities
- The Site Supervisor, supporting the Replacement Housing Lead is responsible to ensure that the Replacement Housing
- Contractors meet the delivery schedules set by the Social and Land team.

- Contractors deliver the associated scope within the required budget.
Qualifications/Experience required
- Degree in Construction technology, Construction Engineering required;
- 10 years of professional experience in general construction supervision, housing construction in rural communities required;
- Familiarity or experience in Tanzanian construction and building legislation, codes and practices r equired;
- Familiarity or experience in Tanzanian materials, pricing and industry norms required;
- Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines required;
- Familiarity with applicable HSE, OSHAS or other safety standards and practices required;
- Proven Project Management, budgeting estimating and reporting experience required;
- Proven Contractor management experience required.
- Proven computer and analytical skills required.
- Fluency in English and Swahili (written and spoken) required,
