The valued client is seeking a Lab Technologist for a 6-month contract in the Fort McMurray, AB area. The schedule for this role is 8 days on and 6 days off.
Responsibilities:
- Support Coordinator, with lab operation, safety, environmental systems and issues, and implementation and maintenance
- Third party lab data management and invoice coding
- Support stake holders on projects, R&D and operations optimization
- Compiles weekly update, KPI, and data reports and submits to Sr. Technologist for approval
- Acts as approver and distributor of all reports if Coordinator is off site
- Knowledge of plant areas and work teams, know where to find historical data, full understanding of document retention, report approver when necessary
- Support Coordinator on projects and operation optimization
- Liaison for third party labs with knowledge of their capabilities and ability to determine the right test for the right result considering sample matrix
- Proven ability to troubleshoot instrument and procedure problems
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable prescribed software and programs
- Keep inventory up-to-date and order new supplies through Maximo
- Deal with Procurement group on issues related to ordering supplies
- Writes, reviews, and revises Standard Operating Procedures
- Trains and sign-off all lab technicians on laboratory processes and procedures
- Carry out routine and non-routine lab testing and data entry, when necessary
- Thorough understanding of testing procedures and instruments
- Maintain both satellite labs as well as Main Lab by ensuring instruments are calibrated and working correctly and chemical inventory is stocked, when necessary
- Ensure daily Quality Assurance and Quality Control is performed, documented and charted for all lab instruments and/or equipment
- Troubleshoot instrument/technical issues along with the resulting documentation
- Identify issues that impact safety, environment and/or production
- Report any safety issues that come up and help contribute to ideas for avoiding accidents and improving the overall safety at the facility
- Maintains records of reference standards and materials used
- Maintains all reference materials, standards, instrument and/or product certificates
- Verify test methods and reference standards are in accordance with the Lab standards
- Look for and lead efforts to improve processes and procedures
- Act as back-up for Coordinator, and Lab Technicians, when required
- Support any other business requirements as determined

- 6-8 years lab experience
- ISO/IEC 17025:2005 knowledge
- SAGD experience
- Petroleum Laboratory experience
- Water Testing experience
- Experience with reading and working with Process and Instrumentation
