The client is currently looking for a Strategy, Commercial & Business Development Analyst to join them on a staff basis in London, UK.
Purpose of Role:
An early career individual contributor in the Strategy, Commercial & Business Development team supporting Clients growth agenda. The incumbent will work in the broader context of the SCBD team and will be involved in highly complex analyses and evaluations across all aspects of the team’s activities. The incumbent will take a supporting role in transaction delivery providing support from origination to deal completion. This typically includes economic analysis, document review, preparation of materials and shadowing negotiations.
Areas of Responsibility Competence Level:
• Providing support to the EVP Strategy, Commercial and Business Development as required
• Supporting development, analysis and refresh of Client group strategy, including competitor and industry intelligence research, strategic analysis, industry and peer group benchmarking
• Support to commercial activities, including negotiation support and analysis
• Supporting and participating in business development projects, including project management and co-ordination with counterparties, advisers and other external and internal stakeholders
• Maintaining awareness of transaction markets and understanding of valuations of 3rd party transactions and how they may affect Client business development activities
• Idea generation: support team efforts and bring new ideas through a mix of internal analysis and leading intel with a view to identifying value and upside in potential acquisition opportunities
• Undertake various transaction-related analytical tasks, including
o Economic modelling to support bids and the subsequent transaction demands
o Contributing to documents, presentations, reports and board papers
o Co-ordinating, supporting and participating in due diligence activities
o Supporting deal negotiations as applicable
o Preparation of materials and summary reports outlining the key aspects of acquisition opportunities and recommendations
• External networking: be confident and have integrity when representing the company in external meetings
• Any other reasonable duty as per instruction by your manager
Critical Skills, Qualifications Experience, etc.:
• Degree qualified professional with background in the Oil & Gas industry or natural resources investment banking
• 3+ years post graduate experience is desirable. Technical experience is valued but not required
• Strong numeracy and deep expertise in DCA analysis and other economic evaluation techniques and metrics
• An understanding of commercial, economic and financial principles related to asset evaluation
• Creativity; a team player who can, on a daily basis, constructively contribute to the SCBD Team and enjoys working collaboratively
• Able to establish credibility in order to gain the respect and build professional relationships with peers, supervisors, and external parties
• Self-starter who meets deadlines; attention to detail, maintains enthusiasm and drive through the cyclical nature of BD, has a continued desire to develop own expertise and knowledge
• BD experience and dataroom attendance desirable but not essential
• Strong organisational skills; be able to juggle multiple issues and changing priorities
• Ability to work to tight timeframes, often with limited/incomplete information, and to rationalise complex issues and formulate solutions
• Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills to build effective relationships. Able to manage internal stakeholders
• An eye for detail, with willingness and ability to constructively challenge status quo and conventional wisdom
• Ability to identify potential value in assets or projects that have been overlooked by others
• Awareness of Client HSEQ Policies and Business Management System (BMS)
• Awareness of Client Values & Business Principles
