The client, a large oil and gas operator, have a vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer to join the team on a contract basis for a duration of 12 months.
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Structural Engineering activities for projects and modifications work and also for Operational Support activities.
Scope of equipment covered includes primary, secondary and tertiary structures located both topsides and subsea.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Structural Engineering associated with projects and modification delivery, ensuring technical solutions comply with company standards and procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.
Provides specialist Structural technical support to Operations teams in the resolution of integrity or operational issues. This includes review and approval of lifting plans, deck loading assessments, tie-down requirements etc.
Ensures all Structural modifications – temporary or permanent – are designed to appropriate standards as advised by the Lead Engineer or Structural Technical Authority.
Producing cost effective designs that are safe and appropriate for the lifespan of the assets.
Providing documentation and drawing deliverables for inclusion in workpacks, design books and Calculation Reports.
Ensures weight control is managed by recording weight changes in accordance with the weight control procedure.
Ensure the Management of Change process is adhered to.
Provides input to project and modification scope development for manhour estimating and planning, and provide regular progress reporting to the Lead Structural Engineer.
Supports the asset integrity Structural Engineers as required.
Supports the Lead Structural Engineer and Structural Technical Authority with urgent business risks as required.
Undertakes routine offshore visits when required.
QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING
Essential
Degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant engineering discipline or significant experience in a similar role.
Current Offshore Medical and Survival Certificate
Preferred
Chartered Engineer status with an appropriate Engineering Council registered institution.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Essential
Experience within structural engineering discipline at a senior level with working knowledge of offshore operations.
Sound knowledge of structural engineering principles and the ability to reflect these in brownfield engineering projects from concept to detailed design.
Good understanding of key legislation and regulatory framework applicable to UKCS offshore regime with understanding of major accident hazards, performance standards, assurance and verification activities.
Knowledge of lifting operations in relation to LOLER requirements.
Knowledge of engineering practices, codes and standards and their application to modifications and construction activities.
Knowledge of other discipline functions e.g. operations, maintenance, inspection, process engineering.
Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques to prioritise subsea and topsides defects and suitable repair options.
Preferred
Experience in working for a Design Contractor
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
Proactive and a team player.
Good level of competence in Microsoft Office packages plus discipline IT tools including STAAD Pro.
Good communication skills.
Willingness to travel offshore.
