Description

The Airdrie Service Centre Equipment Repair team has a career opportunity available for a Manual Machinist Technician. This position will report to the Manager of the Mechanical & Major Rotating Equipment team. As a Machinist Technician, you will play an integral role within the Equipment Repair Team as you will be responsible for providing technical services and skills to ensure that various mechanical systems and major rotating equipment are effectively maintained and operated in accordance with internal and external standards, policies, and procedures. You will also collaborate with the Turbine Fleet team, as well as various regional teams and departments to support the timely repair of the associated equipment.


What you’ll do

  • Provide Manual Machining expertise primarily for our Gas Compressor and Jet shops in the way of repairs, modifications, custom support tooling and assembly items
  • Secondary responsibilities include support (on an as-required basis) in the repair of such equipment as Transfer Compressors, Gas Compressors, Dry Gas Seals, Aero Assemblies, Pumps, Gearboxes, and associated equipment
  • Provide Machinist and Mechanical (Millwright) expertise and other maintenance related support to Canadian Gas Operations as required, including occasional onsite operational and maintenance related support at compression facilities
  • Participate in pre-job planning as well as staging of equipment and resources prior to executing work activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of pre-job documentation
  • Creation and review of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms as required
Minimum Qualifications

  • Possesses Alberta Journeyman Machinist/ Inter-provincial Red Seal Certification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience Machining in Oil & Gas Industry or a related field.
  • Strong skills in manual machining. Operation and experience with various Mills, Lathes, Cylindrical and Surface Grinders, Radial Arm Drill Press’, Lapping machines and cut off saws.
  • Ability to read, interpret and create drawings as needed, calculate dimensions and tolerances to determine methods and sequences of operations to produce the required parts
  • Knowledge of prime mover equipment operations and maintenance, including gas generators, power turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating engines and compressors, unit balance of plant and associated systems
  • Knowledgeable in the Machining, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul of compression equipment and it’s supporting components.
  • Fit and assemble components to close tolerances. Working with torches, hydraulic expansion tools and nitrogen for fitting of parts and assemblies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as an Alberta Journeyman Millwright/ Inter-provincial Red Seal Certification (preferred) or relatable field of Mechanical repair
  • Formal training on the maintenance and overhaul of centrifugal compressors
  • Experience with dynamic balancing rotating equipment
  • Highly motivated individual with an emphasis on safety and safe work habits
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently in the execution of specific duties to support both the team and company objectives
  • Willingness to work in all areas required by the team
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties as required
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with computerized time tracking, Outlook email, Word, Excel, and PDF’s (or similar software)
  • Proven planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to read and decipher drawings and vendor specs
  • Knowledge of codes and applicable regulations
  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new skills
 

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Provide a driver's abstract for review.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Occasionally travel within Canada for business, training, conferences, etc. As such the successful candidate must be able to provide and maintain applicable documentation to this affect.
  • Willing to work overtime as required.
