The valued client, a large Oil & Energy company are seeking a Project Engineer to join their Edmonton team on a long term contract basis.
Work Location: Edmonton-based in Strathcona with business related trips to stakeholders across Canada and international locations as required (ranging between ~0 - 2 weeks per month, dependent on project phase and level of site activity).
Brief Job Description: Responsible for managing multi-disciplinary projects across multiple complexes at Strathcona Refinery.
Project scopes vary from brownfield retrofit work to new installations, and may include repair / replacement in kind, overhauls, upgrades, civil earthworks, pipelines, piping, tanks, pressure vessels, blending & pumping equipment, electrical, instrumentation & controls, tie-ins to existing facilities, etc..
Refinery complexes include receiving, storage, blending, distribution (pipeline, truck, rail) of crude, feedstock and products; Refining units (distillation, hydrofiner, light ends, powerformer, hydrotreaters, asphalt, flare, alkylation, catalytic cracker, butamer, sulphur plants, amine, treaters); and Utilities (steam, gas, nitrogen, cooling water, etc.).
Special Considerations: Candidate should have engineering and project management background, with direct experience working as a Project Manager or Project Engineer on multidisciplinary, multi-million dollar projects on oil & gas facilities, process and utilities.
Typical Work Responsibilities:

Typical Work Responsibilities:
- Report to Project Execution Supervisor, and take work direction from Strathcona Projects Site Manager.
- Work effectively within a multi-functional matrix organization and coordinate between multiple internal and external stakeholders spread across multiple Canadian and international locations. Internal groups may include Operations, Engineering, Construction, etc., and external stakeholders may include e.g. Vendors, Contractors, 3rd party companies, Regulators, Governmental agencies, etc..
- Lead project teams from initial definition (Concept / Lead Case Selection), through all design stages, procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, startup and final turnover to Operations.
- Coordinate development of technical scope of work / design basis, engineering deliverables, tender documentation, bid reviews and contract award, project plans, construction plans, cost and schedule estimates, regulatory applications & permits, commissioning and startup plans, and other project deliverables as required.
- Steward projects to approved schedule and budget, perform management of change, effectively and proactively communicate updates and issues to Management and Steering Committees, prepare for and conduct project milestone reviews, manage heavy workload and shifting priorities in consultation with Project Execution Supervisor and Site Manager.
