The Project Engineer (Cables) will support offshore wind project engineering and construction activities associated with high voltage underground and submarine cable work packages. The Project Engineer (Cables) will be experienced in HVAC and HVDC cable systems with voltages ranges of 35kV to 500kV of XLPE, HPFF, and GIL cable types, as well as different installation methods, including direct buried, concrete duct bank, horizontal directional drilling, jack & bore, micro-tunneling and subsea cable.
• Advance technical deliverables and studies required for the design and installation of cabling systems
• Considerations for the electrical and civil design of high voltage AC and DC transmission lines in the route development, trenched and trenchless crossings, splice vaults spacing and layout and substation interconnections.
-Support the electrical design and studies of offshore wind cable package during pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessment, project capital and operation expense estimates (CAPEX and OPEX)
• Understand and interface with regulatory issues related to underground and submarine cables, including permitting, environmental, siting, and stakeholder considerations and technical certifications
-Periodically travels between company and project offices and facilities
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant electrical engineering discipline
• 3+ years of relevant experience with interconnection of large-scale energy projects is preferred
• Experience working in an interdisciplinary project team managing civil, coastal/near shore, electrical, geotechnical, geophysical, environmental and trenchless design interfaces
• Design and project execution experience in the following onshore and offshore areas of focus: cable design and sizing including ampacity, charging, reactive compensation, losses and EMF calculations, trenched and trenchless technologies, route development, constructability review, permitting and survey work
• Familiarity with utility scale electrical systems such as HVAC substations, HVDC converter stations, reactive compensation technologies and grid interconnection concepts
• Project experience assessing and selecting competing electrical designs based on technical merit, while also being capable of providing or evaluating cost estimates for specific solutions
• Familiarity working with utilities, OEMs and EPC
• Ability to manage consultants and contractors to ensure successful and timely delivery of work package
• Experience presenting before external project stakeholder on technical details, progress and risk
