North Ammonia was established by Arendals Fossekompani and Grieg Maritime Group in 2021 to accomplish this goal and enable the green shift for the maritime sector by making green ammonia available as a maritime fueling alternative.
See www.northammonia.com for further details how we are accomplishing this.

About North Ammonia:
North Ammonia is a Joint Venture, owned 50% by Grieg Edge and 50% by AFK Energy, established in 2021 to enable change in the maritime sector by making green ammonia available as a maritime fueling alternative.
Grieg Edge is the dedicated innovation unit within the Grieg Maritime Group, a family-owned business with roots back to 1884. Grieg Edge aims to identify and develop new business opportunities within shipping and related maritime segments – always with sustainability as a requirement.
AFK Energy is part of Arendals Fossekompani, an Oslo Stock Exchange listed clean technology industrial investment company founded in 1896, actively developing companies and promoting renewable energy to enable the transmission to a green economy across the globe.
Arendal has been chosen as our first strategic site to produce green hydrogen and ammonia due to its proximity to maritime end users in Skagerak and a coastline which is one of the shortest routes to the European continent. Additionally, a direct connection to the power grid controlled by Agder Energi Nett will supply the production plant with renewable power generated from Norwegian hydropower at competitive prices.
