Mechanical Projects Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer should perform mechanical design of packages and have a technical, supervisory role on projects by ensuring that the installations are designed and built within schedule and in accordance with the contract and specifications

1. Coordinate internally with the Project Manager / Project Engineers / Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer / Proposals Engineers and understand the overall scope of work of the particular project/job in detail.
2. Ensure planned (mechanical) engineering progress with respect to the engineering deliverables for tenders (as required) and awarded projects, mechanical engineering planning & scheduling, manpower & resource forecasts.
3. Mechanical design & detail engineering including performing mechanical and structural design calculations, optimization, sizing & selection of materials and equipment etc. for tenders (as required) and for awarded projects. Review of clients’ tender documents, specifications, datasheets, verification of FEED & calculations.
4. Preparation of various engineering deliverables (eg. calculations, drawings & documents) such as mechanical datasheets (for vessels, heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, couplings, turbines, engines, fans, etc), equipment specifications and schedules, equipment lists, line lists, valve lists, MTOs, studies & reports (structural/pipe stress and lateral & torsional analysis, lifting and transport, etc), operation & maintenance manuals, client comment closeout reports etc. and providing necessary engineering inputs to the other disciplines and other departments.
5. To ensure proper division of work & responsibility among the mechanical engineers, providing proper guidance & integration of work done, ensuring good, positive & healthy working nature among the team of engineers to ensure optimum productivity, efficiency and quality.
6. Preparation and issuance of RFQ’s, evaluation of supplier quotations, clarifications, and technical bid analysis etc.
7. Participate in (daily) project scrum meetings. Manage, monitor and report on the status of engineering design of the project.
8. Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and model reviews.
9. Ensure quality & HSE norms/procedures are strictly followed and observance of safety requirements.
10. Quality control in accordance with procedures, method statements, quality plans and inspection & test plans, all prepared by the project management team and by subcontractors.
11. Ensure KPI’s set by client are successfully met.
12. Manage mechanical and structural engineering sub-contractors for engineering design.
13. Coordinate with the project engineer / manager to issue reports required by client on time and be involved in preparation of these reports.
14. Ensure all tasks related to mechanical engineering and design are executed as per approved drawings, calculations and documents.
15. For prospects: develop and review engineering designs and plans by identifying equipment requirements, equipment layout plans, developing technical and capacity specifications, reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, documentation, quotations, etc. to ensure that the required engineering design is prepared. Liaise with Commercial Manager and Proposal Engineers on regular basis.
16. Provide inputs and verification during the preparation of as-built markup drawings and documents after completion of the fabrication, (pre­-) commissioning and startup.
17. Ensure work complies with clie Quality Management System (QMS) and continuously improve it.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Mechanical Engineering Degree Specialization in Petroleum / Petro Chemical Engineering preferred.

 
Special Skills & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.
• Experience in development of equipment and piping layouts.
• Experience in pipe and structural stress analysis utilising Caesar II and StaadPro.
• Experience in performing equipment sizing, hydraulics, developing project philosophies and technical reports.
• Experience in participating for engineering reviews such Design Reviews, HAZOP and 3D model reviews.
• Experience in design of package skids that include heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping, valves and rotating equipment.
• Experience in material selections, corrosion prevention, thermal insulation and sound attenuation.
• Experience in non-destructive testing techniques and requirements.
• Excellent communication skills (English), both written and verbal.
• Proven ability to analyse and resolve technical matters, particularly with international EPCs.
• Strong all-round ability ranging from design to commissioning.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload.
