The valued client, a large Oil & Gas company are seeking a GIS Analyst to join their Calgary team on a long-term contract basis.
The GIS Analyst will work within the Earthworks team which includes working with various disciplines to provide GIS and software solutions for Earthworks projects. This position is best suited to individuals who have great multi-tasking skills, can quickly interpret client’s needs, and provide effective, timely solutions. The successful candidate will have a strong background in GIS and associated software solutions.

The GIS Analyst will work within the Earthworks team which includes working with various disciplines to provide GIS and software solutions for Earthworks projects. This position is best suited to individuals who have great multi-tasking skills, can quickly interpret client’s needs, and provide effective, timely solutions. The successful candidate will have a strong background in GIS and associated software solutions.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for collaborating across assets and disciplines to support commercial development through providing footprint planning, project cost analysis, survey and civil earthworks execution for both commercial and Integrated Winter Program scope
- Optimize proposed project footprints through multi-disciplinary collaboration, utilizing in-house tools to analyze, quantify, and communicate cost effective and risk averse alternatives
- Value analysis - identify the economic impact of decisions and seek opportunities to reduce costs
- Coordinate meetings to achieve multi-disciplinary consensus on footprints prior to survey and Earthworks execution providing the right detail to individuals so that they can make accurate, informed decisions
- Understand the client’s safe work practices and procedures and how to implement into projects
- Attend key Capital Field Project Planning and Scheduling meetings to ensure projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner, balancing stakeholder timelines
- Provide technical support on projects as it relates to the GIS tools and how these tools can be leveraged to make a project more efficient
- Evaluate and implement technology improvements (GIS, web-based solutions, field data collection and management, technical workflows)
- Communicate complex technical information in a way that stakeholders can understand, easily gaining trust and support of peers
- Implement action items and improvement opportunities realized from look backs
- Maintain clean and efficient data structures for both spatial and non-spatial data
- Assist in developing GIS tools using currently available resources (Model Builder, Python, FME, Online Tools) to advance Earthworks planning activities
- General understanding of the client and industry environmental and regulatory guidelines and standards
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry
- Degree or Diploma in Geographic Information Systems or equivalent
- Advanced knowledge of the Esri ArcGIS suite of products with a minimum 5 years’ experience implementing GIS solutions in both the Desktop & Online environment
- Understanding of various GIS programming languages (Python, SQL, Arcade, VB)
- Understanding of earthwork construction practices
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong desire to learn, execute, improve and take accountability for company and team success
- Ability to create effective working relationships within a fast pace multi-disciplinary environment
