Infrastructure Engineer / Aberdeen

The Major Operator Client is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer for a staff role in Aberdeen.

Purpose of Role
• The Infrastructure Engineer supports the Platform Lead in leading, managing, and delivering platform services to consistently meet current and future requirements of the business
• The role supports the business objectives by providing safe, secure, and reliable IS platform infrastructure and infrastructure services to ensure sustainability and efficiency of IS services while adhering to cyber security requirements and principles
• The role is responsible for the creation and maintenance of operational documentation (incl. processes, procedures, design & configuration, and operating manuals)
• The role works with appropriate teams and 3rd party vendors to ensure the integrity of the Client's infrastructure
• Additionally, the role supports the Platform Lead in defining resilience and disaster recovery strategies
• Key requirement of the role is to work with the Platform Lead to improve ways of working, demonstrated by results such as the level of reliability of infrastructure services

Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence Level:
• Supports the execution of the IS strategy and roadmap, including developing relevant functional objectives for the area
• Responsible for leading the administration, support, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of infrastructure hardware and services by defining strategic objectives aligned with business requirements
• Ensures on-going security, performance, stability, maintenance, and monitoring of the Infrastructure hardware and services
• Responsible for IT vendor/partner management and delivery assurance
• Provides technical guidance on infrastructure elements of IT projects
• Performs system administration tasks on system platforms such as UNIX, Windows, VMWARE, and Cloud based systems that utilize the Enterprise and Cloud storage solutions
• Administers existing private, hybrid, and public cloud storage resources including Block, File, and Object level storage solutions
• Responsible for managing and maintaining the backup services to support the disaster recovery and business continuity requirements for the organisation
• Creates and maintains documentation, including processes, procedures, design & configuration, and operating manuals
• Is involved in the design and delivery of support programs which aids competitive objectives within the infrastructure environment
• Ensures all digital security and end user computing design policies and standards are adhered to
• Supports the Platform Lead and supply chain to support IS operations sourcing strategy and partner relationship management
• Supports the Platform Lead with the development of the annual IS Operations budget from a platform infrastructure perspective
• Provides input for the Platform Lead to develop workforce plans that ensure IS operations can supply skilled resources to meet current and future demand across the enterprise
• Manages a comprehensive and integrated ITSM landscape and associated service levels, based on best-practice processes, disciplines, and related toolsets
• Supports the on-going security, performance, stability, maintenance, and monitoring of the infrastructure
• Adheres to enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics
• Ensures the adoption of, and commitment towards, service improvements
• Ensures the development of asset inventories within the organisation's ecosystem
• Follows the formal governance mechanism to establish and monitor effective controls for the processes and functions performed by IS operations teams
• Drives development activity either via the product lines, COE’s or project frameworks
• Responsible for ensuring IS operational capabilities achieve regulatory or statutory compliance requirements
• May be required to provide out of hours support via an on-call rota

Critical Skills Qualifications Experience, etc.:
• Self-motivated and pro-active with a willingness to go the extra mile to achieve important goals
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to the IS workforce
• Proven experience as a subject matter expert in operational infrastructure support and maintenance (including own and cloud data centres) in the oil and gas sector or equivalent, covering systems such server, storage, back-up & recovery, SAAS, PAAS, IAAS and security services
• Experience and knowledge of cloud infrastructure services including tooling and security
• Understanding of ITIL practices
• Ability to think logically and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience implementing packages and working with vendors
• Cloud Server, Storage & backup and recovery solutions administration including in Azure and AWS environments
• Automation of workflows, operational processes, capacity management, and system administration tasks using automation tools for example i.e cli, powershell.
• Expertise or good working knowledge of key infrastructure applications, such as Citrix, Virtualisation tools etc.
