The client is seeking a Materials Engineering Specialist II for a long-term contract in Calgary, AB.

Evaluate and comment on Piping Integrity work performed both internally and by Contractors and sub-contractors to ensure that work is being executed in accordance with Company specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. Facilitates effective execution of Piping Integrity and design routines that align with the team's goals, objectives, and procedures. Assures accurate and timely communication among the team and other company Functions on Piping Integrity activities, progress, and issues. In addition to technical ability, they should demonstrate sound communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate and coordinate the Piping integrity program within the Plant and Field and provide engineering technical work products
• Lead improvement initiatives to progress the effectiveness of the Piping Integrity inspection program
• Research and recommend new inspection technologies for Plant piping
• Coordination and communication of various issues among the company's and contractor's engineering team that affect the Piping/Materials engineering design, safety, and regulatory compliance of the work
• Evaluate / comment on work performed by sub-contractors to ensure that the work is being executed in accordance with Company specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. Includes review of discipline design drawings and documents
• Identify and assess deviations to Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; ensure that such deviations will be processed according to Company procedures; maintains Deviation Control Log.
• Steward Piping Integrity and Materials engineering and design queries from sub-contractors as well as internal technical information requests
• Keep Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager informed of discipline engineering progress, deviations, and execution concerns
• Participate in Piping integrity reviews at Contractor's and subcontractor's locations
• Drives and promotes capital efficiency in engineering design
• Support internal engineering general interest or Global Practice initiatives as requested by Supervisor
• Conduct technical root cause failure analysis to investigate material degradation and recommend improvements to the overall Piping program
• Report to management on the overall effectiveness, improvements, and areas of concern regarding the FIMS 2 (Piping) Program
• Roll out new Piping specific integrity programs (ex. deadlegs) and incorporate them into the larger Piping Integrity asset strategy
• Familiar with piping repair types and their benefits/limitations
• Conduct risk screenings/assessments on piping circuits
• Support Operations team in piping failure response and recovery efforts

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of closely related professional experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related engineering specialty, or equivalent professional experience (experience/training in Material’s engineering considered an asset)
• In depth knowledge of piping design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
• Familiarity with corrosion, erosion and other steel piping degradation mechanisms
• Familiarity with different inspection technologies and their associated benefits and limitations
• API 570 certification considered an asset
