The Client who is a leading Oil and Gas Operator are currently looking for a Automation & Controls Engineer to assist the Senior Staff with technical leadership, delivery, development and implementation of control system projects. The Automation & Controls Engineer will apply engineering principles to design and specify PLC components, networking requirements, develop functional narratives and system specification and other related documents. The Automation & Controls Engineer is expected to participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for control system related issues along with commissioning & start-up phase scope.
Job Responsibilities:
• Control room operation experience.
• Project stage gate and project management experience.
• Experience with the Allan Bradley PLC system.
• Oil and gas industry experience with terminal programming experience.
• Control system knowledge and experience.
• Experience with developing and defining requirements for a terminal management software.
• Experience with developing the commissioning & start-up phase scope.
• Engineering diploma or degree.
• Strong interpersonal behaviours.
• Identify and develop options, modifications to improve availability of the various units, enhance safety, and improve the economic performance of the facility
• Troubleshoot control systems to achieve a technical solution
• Develop conceptual scope of projects and determine engineering requirements. Establish criteria, develop economic feasibility studies and evaluate engineering design and procedures
• Prepare guidelines for non-standard operations
• Lead, co-ordinate, or participate in Risk Analysis as required
Skills Required:
• Eligibility for membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta or Saskatchewan (APEGA or APEGS)
• Risk Assessment techniques
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations in a proactive manner
• Excellent organizational and planning skills to set and exceed established goals, schedules, and deadlines, especially in the execution of inspection programs
• Able to work collaboratively within a team environment, as well as maintain effectiveness in varying environments and with different tasks, responsibilities and people.
Education/Experience
• Graduate of either an Electrical, Automation or Instrumentation Engineering program.
• Eligible for Registration APEGA; P.Eng. Designation preferred
• Technical knowledge of Oil and Gas industry terminal programming
• Familiar with the Allan Bradley PLC system
