Hydrologist (Road & Bridge) - Myanmar
The market leading infrastructure recruitment specialist is seeking an Hydrologist for a recently awarded Road project in Myanmar.
Opportunity:
The client is a leading International Consultancy who have been awarded the Design & Supervision contract for the rehabilitation of Rural roads across the country impacted by flooding.
Responsibilities:
This position shall be to inform roads assets design, the consultant will carry out a detailed hydrometrical survey and hydrological study of the road, river and bridge site, which shall include the following:
- Take lead for the coordinating the study in different agencies through the DOH to collect the appropriate secondary hydrological data for the target project area for past maximum 100 years rainfall data if available.
- Establish baseline hydrological condition in project area by using the GIS based mapping where applicable.
- Identify hydrological factors that may influence the hydrology and hydraulics in the project area
- Establish likely hydrological scenario
- Establish vertical and horizontal clearances for the proposed structures
- Establish and recommend the scour depth of the bridge/drainage structures for the identified sub-projects for the component of the bridges i.e. Abutments and Piers etc..
- Attend interaction meetings with the client (DOH)
- Preparation of different reports as required for the study
- Analysis and interpretation of hydrological data by using the appropriate hydrological software e.g. HEC- HMS, MIKE-11 etc.) including the simulation of the proposed bridges.
- Maximum discharge calculated by established formulas with different return periods and the peak discharge observed over a period of 100 years.
- Velocity and depth of flow at the time of survey. Shifting of the river in the past at proposed bridge site and in its vicinity.
- Other information required for river control, design, construction and maintenance of the bridge.
- Identify and recommend the segment of the roads where required an additional opening to release the flush flood water by using unvented Causeway or vented causeway including length/depth of hydrological opening to cater the flush flood.
- Based upon the above- mentioned studies and investigations the consultants shall make the best use of their technical know-how and professional skill to arrive at and recommend the most cost effective design parameters. The consultant shall discuss in detail possible options in the concept report and shall recommend the most appropriate option.
- Submit the concept design report on main design issues and options and short descriptions relating to the proposed structure and its major components along the whole road length, e.g. superstructure, pier, foundations river training/ bank protection structures, approach road etc. It shall include location of proposed foundations and arrangement of the bridge components along with comparison between the possible alternative types.
- Develop the hydraulic part of the detailed design report in specified format and present/consult with MOC prior to the submission of the final report, making necessary amendments/corrections as needed.
Key requirements for the role:
- Sc. in Hydrology degree or Equivalent (preferably Ph.D.)
- 5 years working experience in road and bridge hydrology in planning or design.
- A comprehensive understanding of hydrology and climate change science
- knowledge of climate change impacts on water quantity, stream flow, and hydrological responses and feedback in mountainous terrain dominated by storm water.
- Experience in use of advance knowledge of hydrology analysis software is required.
- Proven broad understanding of World Bank or ADB or MDB policies and guidelines relevant to the project shall be preferred.
Language:
Fluency in English writing and communication
Salary Package:
The salary package shall be around $6,000 per month with allowances for accommodation etc.
