The client is seeking a Sr. Drilling Engineer to join their Atlantic Region Drilling Completions and Interventions Team.

Start Date: April 1, 2020
Duration: 1 year, possibility of extension
Reports to:  Well Engineering Manager
Candidates must be either local to NL or willing to relocate

Core Responsibilities:
  • Providing technical support to ensure operational readiness for the upcoming WWRP including:
  • Development of operating procedures and policy documentation.
  • Development of completion, intervention, and work- over programs. Ensuring operations are planned and executed in accordance with Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB), company policies, and industry standards.
  • Liaising with Well Planning Design Teams (Reservoir, Geoscience, Drilling, Completion, Rig Operations, and Contractors.
  • Analyzing and making recommendations on the appropriate use of existing technologies to enhance
  • Conducting technical and commercial reviews of vendor proposals to ensure the most technically sound and cost-effective methods are employed.
  • Mentoring of Junior Engineering Staff and Engineering Co-op Students.
  • Develop detailed well designs, if required, and supporting documents in accordance with applicable requirements, in alignment to the well design and execution processes, and in support of related protocols
  • Supporting well related documentation for regulatory submission as required.
  • Interfacing with and directing third party contractors in the development of various drilling operations procedures and guidance
  • Interfacing with the Subsurface Team to ensure team objectives are being met
  • Assisting with management of long lead inventory equipment
  • Assisting accounting staff in administration of invoicing and cost control for ongoing operations
  • Participating on Emergency Response Team, which may include the requirement to carry a pager/cell phone and be on call, as required.
?Must Have Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree preferred, with eligibility for Professional Engineer status with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
  • At least 15 years of experience within Drilling/Completions, predominantly within the drilling space and Ideally with platform facilities in a harsh weather environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in well construction design, planning and operations. With demonstrated working knowledge of the following:
  • o Well planning of highly deviated / extended reach horizontal wells
  • o Well Construction policies, procedures, and related industry standards/practices
  • o NL Regulatory guidelines and industry standards
  • o Well Engineering process safety and barrier management practices
  • o Tubular Stress Analysis (Landmark StressCheck and WellCat )
  • o Torque/drag modelling and analysis (Landmark Well Plan)
  • o Casing, Cement, and Fluid Design
  • o Relief Well Planning and Well Abandonment guidelines
  • o Dynamic Well Kill modelling
  • o Pore Pressure/Fracture Gradient Analysis
  • o Geomechanics Modelling
  • o Fluids Design and Hydraulics
  • o Well cost reporting and AFE generation
  • o Platform Drilling & Operations, Surface Wellheads and Trees
  • Applicants should have permanent resident status in Canada, and ability to relocate to Newfoundland
  • Valid Well Control certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, and with others outside of the formal organization (e.g. service providers, vendors, contractors)
  • Excellent analysis and problem identification abilities and strong judgment to recommend practical solutions.
Nice To Have Qualifications:
  • Experience in platform drilling operations and platform well planning would be an asset.
