Job description

A large project in Norway requires a experienced tunnelling specialist as a Design Manager to support in the management of a large contract in Norway. The contract is a newly awarded scheme for drill & blast tunnelling with a Norwegian Local authority and will include the full cycle from excavation through to completion. This is a role working with the contractor and closely with a major national client to deliver the highway tunnel, as such Norwegian/Swedish language is essential.

They are seeking a well rounded Design Manager who is able to oversee the construction design, design review, client interface and operational management of the project reporting into the project manager.

The role will be focused on the delivery of a multi billion NOK contract and will be a key long term role for the company. The position will allow for the forming of a large design team, the development of the brand and new projects in the region, and the delivery of major projects within tunnelling & underground structures.

The Design manager will be responsible for the following:
-Technical leadership within underground related design (tunnels & stations)
- Implementing quality standards
-Budget management and procurement
-Building and recruiting a large team
-Liaising with construction/site teams
-Overseeing sub-consultants

An ideal candidate for this position will have the following:
-Degree or equivalent in mining or civil engineering.
-Ideally fluent in NORWEGIAN (Swedish could be considered)
-Previous experience in roles such as; Project Manager, Design Coordinator, Structural Engineer
-Experience with underground excavation, stations, caverns, drill & blast, conventional tunnelling, concrete and major underground civil projects will be essential

Candidates must be willing to relocate to Norway on a full time basis as a permanent employee. There will be travel provided and packages are negotiable up to a very competitive level, however these will be focused on long term staff and not offering Freelance or Contractor working conditions.
