Description
1. Role
Co-ordination and supervision of a team of engineers in the delivery of technical aspects of pig & associated test equipment design for both commercial and development projects utilizing internal and external resources as required.
General
• Taking technical direction and guidance from Engineering Manager & COO and working with Project Managers to deliver pig design configurations for commercial and development projects
Leadership
• Providing mentoring/coaching/development for a small team of engineers & associated functional technical guidance & support
• Technical cross disciplinary leadership of work packages (sub modules) of a project providing guidance and coaching to others
• Lead teams of engineers to achieve project goals and reviewing designs as the design authority
• Assist Electronics Team Leader in recruitment and retention of staff
• Provide technical leadership to improving reliability, operability and maintainability of HW-developed solutions
Ownership and Accountability
• Accountability for delivery to quality, budget, plans, safety and fitness for purpose of work packages (sub modules) undertaken
• On time delivery and execution
• Ensure team project involvement and ownership of issues and resolution from Concept through Detailed Design including manufacture, commissioning and testing
• Producing procedures, design documentation, calculations and detailed analysis as necessary to demonstrate fitness for purpose of all designs undertaken
• Produce cost estimates, plans, reports and supportive calculations
• Coordination of work packages (sub modules) undertaken and direction setting for the team (internal & external resources)
• Ensure design documentation control is robust (Checking/approval, version control etc.)
Risk Management
• Identify, review and track all technical risks and develop risk mitigation plans with Project Managers for all work packages (sub modules) undertaken
Design Reviews
• Presentation of technical functional design
• Organising of concept and detailed design reviews for work packages (sub modules)
Design Tools
• Familiarisation and efficient use of design tools (Rapid Harness)
Design Practices/Templates/Guidelines and Standards
• Production and peer level review/approval of functional Design Practices/Templates/Guidelines and Halfwave standards ensure compliance with international standards.

• Production of design templates
Quality
• Ensure high quality documentation, including calculations are produced and checked/approved for all work undertaken that demonstrates fitness for purpose
• Ensure compliance with design practices/templates/guidelines/standards and approved processes throughout Halfwave
• Develop process & systems improvements for the function
Support
• Provide engineering support and technical guidance to other functions as required
• Technical discussions with suppliers
• Technical presentations to clients
• Provide technical support and guidance for the manufacture, commissioning and testing & operational activities

Technical
• Specialist knowledge and experience in a multi-disciplinary design environment
• IDEALLY: Knowledge and experience in pig design, subsea equipment design and operation – including bespoke offshore equipment design and manufacture
• MINIMUM: In depth knowledge and experience in the detailed design and managing small teams to design and develop new products/equipment for the oil & gas environment. Broad based engineering design and development experience
• Multi-disciplinary design and project engineering experience (work package/sub module)

• Awareness and appreciation of market trends and emerging technologies relevant to our services, project or product developments

• Ensure awareness of specific workplace risks
Authority
• Technical responsibility for all work packages (sub modules) undertaken
Requirements
• Engineering design and development experience, demonstrated over 5-10 years
• Educated to degree level, engineering or equivalent
• Member/Fellow of recognised engineering body (e.g. IET or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer status – or equivalent
• Extensive experience in product development / architecture
• Experience with advanced troubleshooting and repairs
• Motivation to learn, develop new skills and share knowledge
• Good knowledge of English, written and oral
