We are a leading global technical recruitment company providing professional contract and permanent staff to a diverse world-wide client base within the oil & gas Industry. Our client, a leading engineering company, has a contract to hire opportunity for a Senior Project Estimator to be based out of Canonsburg, PA.

SCOPE:

 

Estimating work directly related to the general business operations of the company, including preparation of competitive bids.  Independently oversees the preparation of detailed and conceptual cost estimates for both bids and for studies.  Interfaces with Construction, Engineering, and Project to assure that estimates are prepared with all necessary inputs.  Oversees and coordinates the work of discipline estimators on their projects.  Depending on the project, may be responsible for utilizing Icarus2000 to prepare cost estimates.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Responsible for coordinating various discipline estimators assigned to their projects.  May be asked to oversee the work of non-senior Project Estimators.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Normally requires a four-year college degree in an engineering or construction discipline, although this is not an absolute requirement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Normally requires ten years of related estimating experience, with five years of this experience as a Project Estimator. Capable of preparing estimates with CoolEst and Icarus2000. Local construction estimating experience with Labor Unions required.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

•        Attend project kickoff meetings on projects that will require estimates.

•        Assist Sales in making client presentations as needed.

•        Make jobsite visits when required for bidding or estimating.

•        See that documents and information required for estimate preparation are  distributed to discipline estimators.

•        Exercise discretion and independent judgment in preparation of all estimates.

•        Gather estimate details from discipline estimators for incorporation into estimate summary

•        Interface with Construction as needed to gather project-specific labor productivity, field indirect and construction management staffing, temporary facilities, construction equipment spreads, and other components of indirect and construction management costs.

•        Interface with Procurement and Subcontracts as necessary to obtain pricing for estimates.

•        Interface with the Equipment Department to obtain pricing for construction equipment rentals.

•        Interface with Construction Personnel Department to obtain wage rates, etc. for estimates.

•        Prepare estimate summaries from all inputs listed above.

•        Conduct risk analysis sessions.

•        Review estimates with Manager of Estimating.

•        Attend estimate reviews with upper management.

•        Prepare and present IFC rates to Project Controls.

•        Prepare and present estimates to Project Controls for budget preparation.

•        Prepare estimates for PCR's and Variances as required.

•        Utilize Icarus2000 to prepare Class III and Class II estimates as required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

A good background in mathematics is required, and while no high level math is really needed, the job is very "number intensive".  Must be skilled in the use of spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and databases (Microsoft Access) for calculation and manipulation of estimate figures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site.  This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.  Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.  Occasionally may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
