Telecommunication Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Duartion:1 year contract
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Telecommunication Engineer utilizes discipline knowledge and design experience related to the planning, design, and engineering of telecommunication systems. As a Telecommunication Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring performance of the work, development of system specifications, and vendor deliverables are in compliance with international codes, Company specifications, and industry standards and regulations. You provide support for yard installation and offshore commissioning and determine performance levels and project needs of system. Additionally, you must be aware of required regulatory requirements, installation operating areas pertaining to radio frequencies, telecom standards, telecom regulations and telecom regulators.
The Telecommunication Engineer must work with Engineers and Designers both within and outside the discipline, provide support for yard installation and offshore commissioning to determine project needs and performance levels and safeguard the Company’s interests. In this role you will be responsible for: Planning engineering activities; budget man-hours; setting priorities and complete projects within time and budget constraints; reporting to discipline group manager and engineering project manager for progress update; coordinating with other disciplines on the project to ensure the system interface; issue technical query and provide technical clarification to client, vendor and regulatory agency; plan, design, and engineer various telecommunications systems such as microwave radio, fiber optical transmission network, GMDSS, UHF radio, VHF aeronautical radio, VHF marine radio, satellite communication, PABX, LAN, collision avoidance radar and racon, meteorological, PAGA, CCTV, and access control; develop system specifications; request for proposal and evaluate vendor bid to establish contract; monitor vendor progress and ensure vendor deliverables quality; develop, review, and approve engineering documents and drawings including bill of material, equipment layout drawings, cable block diagrams, termination diagrams, and test procedures; attend factory acceptance test; provide support for yard installation and offshore commissioning; ensure compliance to industry standards and guidelines, local regulations, and rules; conduct engineering studies and calculations including. radio path loss calculation and PAGA sound coverage studies to determine performance levels and project needs of system; provide telecommunication system budget estimation for proposals and FEED.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related and eight (8) years of experience in the job offered or eight (8) years of experience working with telecom systems, related regulatory requirements, and international codes such as SOLAS, IMO, and other standards, codes, and requirements.
