A Pre-Contracts Manager is required to work for a global renewable energy company. Amid growing climate change concerns, this company focuses on providing wind, hydro and innovative power solutions for customers around the world.
About the Role
The Pre-Contracts Manager (EPC) will develop and negotiate Balance of Plant (BOP) Subcontracts, Joint Venture or Consortium agreements, which support the primary EPC contracts for the delivery and construction of wind farm projects. This role is focused on project proposal and contracting activities up to the point of securing an order.
You will work in conjunction with the Commercial (bid to order phase) and Project Delivery (supply and execution phase) stakeholders, to develop the EPC turnkey partnering strategy for individual projects, including the adoption of consortium, subcontract or joint venture structures for engagement of BOP partners. Other key responsibilities will include, but not limited to
*Develop and implement subcontract procurement strategies to deliver cost reductions, mitigate risk and facilitate more efficient project execution
*Engage with shortlisted subcontractors during the bidding and tendering phase to develop and negotiate key contract terms & conditions, along with price and corresponding scope
*Lead the Balance of Plant contract negotiations including drafting of contracts and finalization of contract documentation to achieve back to back positions with the primary EPC contract
*Participate and support on the handover from Commercial order phase to Project execution phase and consult with project execution team to receive performance feedback on subcontractors, to factor into subsequent shortlisting or selection for current or future projects
*Participate in evaluation & feedback sessions (external & internal) in relation to supplier/subcontractor performance
About You
The ideal candidate will hold a degree qualification in Engineering, Law or a relevant commercial discipline (Postgrad degree in addition will be highly regarded, for example MBA, Masters in Law) and a minimum of 10 years' experience in performing a similar role in the local construction industry (in Australia) on Design & Construct and/or EPC turnkey projects in infrastructure, oil & gas, power generation, or renewable energy (preferably onshore wind farm) sectors.
You will use your expert negotiating and influencing skills to take the lead in negotiations, understand relevant technical issues, deploy effective problem-solving skills and exercise sound commercial initiative and judgement. Other skills and experience can include, but not limited to
*Proficiency in structuring contracts and drafting legal provisions
*Demonstrated experience in project management and execution for thermal or renewable power plant projects, including an understanding of construction and operational issues associated with these types of projects
*Demonstrated evidence of successful commercial performance in an international matrix management structure
*Ability to travel as required domestically and some international travel in the Asia Pacific region.
