Operations Manager / England

Fantastic Opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to join an established, stable company with a recognised and respected brand.

My client are looking for an experienced Operations manager to oversee their Wakefield Manufacturing Plant and Distribution Centre. Being part of a larger group, this position offers excellent prospects for progression and development as well as a desirable package and working environment.

The role in general

• To take responsibility for the stainless and copper manufacturing operation and distribution Centre.
• To be operationally responsible for Health & Safety, quality, targets and processes.
• Working alongside mid-level management toward increasing quality and efficiency.
• Being a driving force in improvement, innovation and reduction of cost.
• Promoting a Health & Safety orientated culture.

Key Duties

• Ensuring strict adherence to Health & Safety policies across the operation.
• Strong Operational leadership.
• To drive and promote changes in operational efficiency.
• Develop long-term operational strategies.
• Management of all direct reports to ensure high standards are maintained.
• Active involvement in operations personnel development.
• To work alongside Quality and Product managers in the aim of improving product quality and optimising manufacturing costs.
• Operational oversight in the introduction of new products.
• Reporting on operational KPI's at regular management meetings and to communicate with operations team ensuring targets are met.
• Root Cause Analysis and continuous operational improvement to ensure efficiency and safety of the plant using recognized lean manufacturing techniques to reduce waste.
• Development of Capital expenditure programs.
• Working with other senior team members such as technical, commercial and financial to ensure needs are met.
• Assisting with business development projects when required.

Candidate Attributes

• Preferably educated to degree level but not essential.
• Strong experience in operations management of manufacturing facilities with 50 plus staff.
• Metal based manufacturing experience desired but not essential.
• Experience of using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TPM, Kanban or other tools in process improvement.
• Proven track record in KPI performance including quality, delivery and cost.
• Able to work in a pressurised and demanding environment.
• Able to collaborate with other departments.
• Experience in co-ordinating activity across a large team.
• Honest, reliable and team orientated.
• Strong communication and motivation abilities.
• Confident in decision making.
• IT literate with a good knowledge of Excel and ERP/MRP.
