Position - Service Technician (Onshore Wind Farm)

Role Summary

Wind turbine service technicians specialize in the operation and maintenance of wind turbines so they can be used to produce wind- powered electricity. Their work involves installing new turbines and performing routine maintenance to ensure the wind turbines are working correctly. These technicians also respond when a wind turbine isn't working properly and are responsible for performing repairs once they determine the cause of the problem.

Essential responsibilities:

  1. Liaise with Technical Support Services, Site Manager, Service Manager and Customer representatives.
  2. Climbing wind turbine towers to inspect, maintain, or repair equipment for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance

  3. Troubleshooting or repair mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions related to variable pitch systems, variable speed control systems, converter systems, and related components

  4. Inspecting the exterior and physical integrity of towers

  5. Maintaining tool and spare parts inventories required for repair, installation or replacement services

  6. Undertaking electrical Balance of Plant maintenance activities

  7. Replacing worn or malfunctioning components, and; Record keeping and reporting.

  8. Have a demonstrated and consistent commitment to safety policies and procedures, and be able to work within those requirements

  9. Flexibility to operate around high-wind-low-wind days.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  1. An A Grade Electrical trade qualification

  2. HV electrical experience

  3. Experience with preparation and use of Job Safety Analysis and Safe Work Method Statements

  4. Ability to work comfortably at heights

  5. Minimum of 2 years onshore wind farm experience required

  6. Intermediate computer skills

  7. Demonstrated initiative to increase efficiency in operations

  8. Driver's licence required

  9. A strong commitment to ensure safety and safe working environments
