Lead Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower - Auckland, New Zealand
My client has exciting opportunity for long term permanent position. You will be working for one of the leading Consulting engineering practices working across Energy and Infrastructure.
Working for the owner's engineer, you will work across team for medium scale hydropower project in Indonesia. The mechanical engineering work involves hydro turbines and auxiliaries, generator mechanical components, power station mechanical systems including auxiliaries. The electrical and mechanical works package will be delivered under FIDIC Yellow Book conditions of contract whereas the civil works will be delivered under FIDIC Red Book CoC. The owner's engineer is for both packages.
Reports to Project Manager The candidate will take the lead in the implementation stage of the project. This shall be in accordance to the contract signed between the client with the contractor.
Key activities to be performed includes the following;
- Design review and approval of documents and drawings submitted by contractor
- Review and approval of quality assurance program, contract program, method statement
- Monitoring of manufacturing process
- Check interface of mechanical engineering design with the electrical engineers and civil, structural and contracts team.
- Carry out factory inspection and testing
- Administer the contract related to the mechanical works
- Coordinate and liaise with Client's representatives as required on technical matters and commercial matter.
- Participate in progress meetings with contractors, clients and the Engineer's team.
- Coordinate with Engineer's site team to ensure correct information is available and resolve any conflict that may arise.
- Delegate and supervise the work of assistants assigned to the project.
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering.
- Excellent in English (spoken and written).
- 5-10 years Hydropower experience
- Knowledgeable in hydro turbine design, manufacturing, testing.
- Knowledgeable in power station mechanical auxiliary plants such as cooling water system, lube oil system, compressed air, fire protection, ventilation and air conditioning.
- Experience in installation, testing and commissioning of hydro turbine and mechanical works will be an advantage.
