Description:
This role is part of the Reliability Group supporting
plant operation and reliability improvement efforts.
Working in a team environment, it carries
responsibility for implementing reliability best
practices, developing and optimizing preventive
maintenance tasks, and supporting maintenance
activities. The position interacts with other technical
groups on site (process engineering, maintenance,
and capital project groups), corporate technical
networks and peers, and vendors/suppliers as
needed to resolve problems and improve plant
reliability and performance. The position is located in
the Bayport Industrial District in southeast Harris
County adjacent to both La Porte and Pasadena, TX.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor equipment performance and make
improvement recommendations
• Apply data analysis techniques to develop
engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other
problems that adversely affect plant operations
including capacity, quality, cost, safety,
environmental, and regulatory compliance issues
• Consult with peers at the site and across the
company
• Provide technical support/expertise within your
discipline in the design and installation stages of
projects for new assets and modification of existing
assets to minimize life cycle cost and maximize asset
availability
• Lead or participate in incident investigations and
root cause analysis
• Systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and
refine an asset maintenance plan that includes:
o Value-added preventive maintenance tasks
o Effective utilization of predictive and other nondestructive
testing methodologies designed to identify
and isolate inherent reliability problems
• Apply value analysis to repair/replace,
repair/redesign and make/buy decisions
• Participate in interdisciplinary reliability
improvement teams to guide efforts to ensure
reliability and maintainability of equipment,
processes, utilities, controls, and safety systems.
• Provide technical support within your discipline to
production, maintenance, project, and process
engineering groups

Requirements:
BS degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum
of 4 years relevant experience in the refining,
petrochemical, chemical process, or power
generation industries is preferred. Strong
interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the
requirement for effective communication of complex
issues across the organization as well as for
mentoring and consensus building. The successful
candidate must exhibit an understanding of business
drivers, management of change requirements,
reliability processes, and maintenance workflow. The
individual must have or develop basic proficiency in
the following areas:
• Interpretation and application of industry codes and
standards (i.e. IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC)
• Process instrumentation and control valves
• Motors, motor controls, and drives
• Analyzers and sample systems
• PLC maintenance, troubleshooting, and
programming
• Distributed control systems
• Project management
• Reliability Engineering concepts
• Reliability data analysis techniques
• Predictive and Preventive Maintenance concepts
• Basic knowledge of power distribution systems
• Basic knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems
(SIS) design and logic
• Ability to apply computer software tools (SAP,
Microsoft Office, Meridium, CAD)
The successful candidate must have strong

integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an
ethical way.
Perform assignments, which require the application of
engineering education, training or experience and
special knowledge or judgment of the mathematical,
physical, or engineering sciences under the close
supervision of a Professional Engineer. Assignments
are designed to further develop the incumbent’s job
knowledge and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Applies engineering principles in discipline of
competency, as assigned by supervisor with some
direction.
• Prepares basic specifications detailing performance
requirements, specific components, design
requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor
drawing requirements.
• Demonstrates a continuing consciousness of safety
in daily activities and implemented in work designed.
• Prepares sketches and performs calculations for a
specific segment of a project.
• Assists in the development of technical
specifications.
• Evaluates vendor bids and drawings to assure
compliance with specifications.
• Visits vendor facilities to inspect equipment for
compliance with requirements.
• Visits job-sites to evaluate site, project requirements, and conditions.
• Interfaces with other disciplines and Clients.
• Prepares inquiry and purchase requisitions.
• Prepares bid tabulations on simple purchases.
• Must be able to read engineering drawings.
• Reviews vendor drawings.
• Performs related fundamental engineering support
tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints,
distributing drawings, making simple calculations,
proofreading reports, etc.
• Develops a focus on least cost, safe design.
• May utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs,
technical manuals, etc.
• Field notes are neatly arranged, accurate and
complete.
• Prepares sketches, which are readable by anyone
and include all pertinent dimensions and notes.
• All material production is signed and dated, with job
number.
• May interface with construction crews during
construction phase to provide and receive input
relative to accuracy of drawings, coordination of
shutdowns and to expedite the timely and efficient
completion of the project.
• Maintains continued awareness of project schedule
and budget
• Keeps supervisor informed of progress.
• Meets company quality assurance requirements for
personal work assignments.
• Supports field assignments as required.
• Must be able to perform all functions of the lower
classification.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in science or
engineering
• 3-5 years’ experience related to this industry
