Our client is an energy and commodities company; its primary business is the trading and distribution of energy products globally it trades over seven million barrels per day of crude oil and products and, at any time, has 250 ships transporting its cargoes.
Position Summary
The Commercial Analyst position is a key entry level role, enabling strong candidates to get immersed in a P&L driven environment, develop core analytical skills, leverage and develop the firm's management reporting and risk management system and integrate into the culture and organisation. The role has a strong history of feeding into other parts of the business, including the trading matrices
Responsibilities include:
· Maintaining detailed position summary for respective business unit
· Compiling daily profitability reports enabling traders and brokers to determine how market moves are impacting their positions
· Contributing to the weekly summary to Board on P&L movement
· Ensure all deals have an accurate Mark to Market.
· Maintain, calculate and issue daily price exposure to the Matrix
· Maintain profit / loss reporting to ensure these are accurate at all times.
· Conduct ad-hoc analysis as required by brokers, traders, marketers and management
Qualifications and Experience
· Graduate with an excellent academic record, probably in an analytical discipline
· Internship in a commercial, analytical role in the energy major, investment bank or consulting firm ideally with a focus on energy sector
· Strong quantitative and analytical capability and comfort with Excel
· Clear understanding of accounting and valuation concepts
· Additional language skills, an advantage
· Familiarity with Java, VBA, Python, JavaScript and R/Matlab would be an additional advantage
