Our client, a global leader in diversified mining and metals company and are eagerly seeking an experienced Mining Engineer to join their expanding team. Offered as a full time opportunity, this role will be based in Boddington which is located approximately 130km south east of Perth where employees can choose to live in Boddington or other nearby communities which all offer an enviable lifestyle. Living in Boddington gives its residents the dual advantage of a rural setting while only 90 minutes' drive to Perth. 

This Mining Engineer role see you be a member of one of the largest and lowest-cost bauxite mining and alumina refining operations in the world. Our client manages a bauxite mine, alumina refinery and port operations in Western Australia’s South West.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Lead Design and Land Management, you will provide expertise, coordination and management in the development of all short and medium term designs to support mine plans (up to ten years). The mine design process must take into account all HSEC requirements to ensure safe, cost effective and continuous production that meets all quality considerations. You will: 
  • Support the orderly progression of the mine by ensuring the currency, and timely preparation of designs to support short and medium term (to 10 years) schedules
  • Prepare and communicate optimised designs and stage plans for pits, dumps, haul roads, drainage and infrastructure
  • Involvement and engagement with key stakeholders including development, ore mining and rehabilitation processes in the planning discipline
  • Undertake regular field inspections of mining operations to validate design work and ensure high standards of design implementation are maintained. If required, recommend improvements
  • Participate in auditing and investigation processes to support material risk management and governance activities
  • Ensure all plans and designs reflect current mining strategies
  • Investigate and implement alternative planning and design tools
  • Project work as required
  • Monitor and report against key metrics
  • Identify improvement opportunities in mine design and scheduling to improve performance
Role Requirements
  • Open cut operations experience
  • Proven work experience as mine design engineer
  • Experience in Vulcan or similar mine design software
  • Working experience in pit designs, dump designs, haul road designs, drill and blast design and ideally also rehab design
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
