We are a leading global technical recruitment company providing professional contract and permanent staff to a diverse world-wide client base within the oil & gas Industry. Our client, a major oil and gas pipeline company, is currently seeking a Maintenance  Engineer  based in  on a 12 month contract with possibility of extension, based in Wolf Lake, AB.

Individuals WILL need to be local to the area as no relocation/LOA is provided.

Accountabilities:  

  • HSSE: To act at all times in accordance with Client’s policy on Health, Safety and Environment.  Comply, respect and intervene with Client’s 12 life-saving rules.   
    • Be accountable to personal safety
    • Participate and coordinate improvements that reduce hazard exposure to the execution of maintenance work, e.g. Hands free tools
  • Provide technical support for Maintenance Execution on maintainability improvements.  Support the effective and efficient delivery of equipment availability
    • Follow up on work orders with pending engineering input and act as interface between Planning and Discipline Engineering
    • Day-to-day support :  Act as first point of contact for maintenance
      • Build interface with Operations Maintenance Coordinators, Maintenance Coordinators and planners 
      • As core member of the area production team (APT) participate on daily and weekly production meetings and work on assigned actions as per priorities provided by the APT
      • Provide input into the development of the maintenance budget for the production area
      • Go to the field to inspect failed equipment and support Discipline Engineering in providing insight on failure modes / failure mechanisms as well as PM changes required
      • Provide quality assurance for master data updates in SAP
      • Attend and participate in Blade 10 meetings like YT, DNR and the 3 week look ahead schedule.  Provide input into corrective maintenance work prioritization
      • Challenge unnecessary downtime for maintenance work, provide input for the alignment of maintenance work at the system / train level.  Challenge Discipline Engineering on work scope balancing safety, costs and availability
      • Complete assigned activities as per equipment bad actors within the unit.  Keep production team communicated on progress
  • Act as field focal point for OPEX, multi-disciplinary equipment related MOCs by coordinating the input of Engineering disciplines as needed:  each discipline is responsible for development and implementation of the solution
  • Participate in screening meetings for site MOCs
    • Provide input on reviewers assigned to each MOC
    • Challenge or validate business justification to implement MOCs
  • Technical & field support for Turnaround (TA), pitstops and outages
    • Provide technical input on scope development for maintenance work
    • Attend risk ranking sessions for TA / pitstop scope definition
    • Facilitate risk assessments for found work and maintenance deferrals when needed
    • Compile final report covering deferred, incomplete or cancelled activities in order to understand residual risk after the event
  • Complete end of shift report in UTL at the end of each shift as per guidelines to assure business continuity with incoming shift
    • Have a  discussion with the outgoing shift in order to gain insights on what is happening at the unit

Skills and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (preferably Mechanical)
  • 3-5 years of work experience:  a minimum of 3 years of field (plant) experience is a key skill for this role.  5 years of field / site experience is preferred. 
  • Registered as an APEGA member (P. Eng or EIT) or eligible for APEGA registration
  • Work on a 7x7 shift schedule
  • Proven experience on coordinating MOC activities
  • Ability to build positive partnerships and working relationship with peers, engineering, operations and maintenance
  • Team player, willingness to learn and to work effectively with others
  • Proficiency in SAP maintenance management system would be an asset
