This is an excellent opportunity for a Construction Manager to join a team of engineers that are widely recognised as market leaders in the field of Infrastructure and Construction. This is a good opportunity to work with a Major Contractor on a Marine Port expansion project, working with open jetty construction, piling, concreting and installation. The client we are working with act as a market leader with many award winning iconic projects. As a business they employ over 2000 staff and operate across multiple contracting disciplines.

Job Role / Responsibilities

Site based Construction Manager with responsibility for the planning and coordination of the site construction activities. Liaising with engineering, procurement, logistics, project management and the various construction facilities with a view to supporting and optimising the overall site construction effort.

As the Construction Manager, you will report to the Project Manager / Deputy Project Manager in the absence of the Project Manager and be responsible for all delivery aspects of the project scope ensuring effective controls and procedures are in place. As a leader of this team, you will be required to create an environment for exceptional team performance to ensure team roles, skills and behaviour are aligned with the Project objectives and requirements.

Project

The expansion of a phosphate port. The scope includes the following items:

  • A caisson breakwater protecting structure with part of which will also be acting as a quay structure for the berthing of two vessels to provide loading / unloading of solid and liquid bulk.
  • An access bridge (trestle) to the berthing structures, An onshore ground access ramp to the bridge
  • A floating Service quay, with two access footbridges.
  • All the equipment necessary to ensure safe berthing and mooring for ships including bollards, fenders, ladders, mooring aid systems etc.
  • All desilting, dredging and rock excavation works for an access channel and a turn-around basin.
  • The supply and installation of aids to navigation
  • The implementation of utility networks from the battery limits at the shoreline to the berths.
  • The seawater intake and seawater supply structure with two submerged pipes laid of the trestle, with an intake header located starting at approximate level -10mCD and a Pumping Station (Booster Well) near the shoreline.

Requirements

For this role the client that we are working with have a minimum requirement of:

  • MSc in Civil Engineering
  • At least 15 years' site experience on large marine projects, working for a Tier 1 contractor.
  • At least two successfully delivered EPC jetty projects; one as construction manager.
  • Versed in marine construction activities such as piling, concreting and installations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to QHSE and knowledge of marine construction QHSE requirements.
  • Superb communication skills: able to develop presentations to management and foster strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Computer skills: MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Language requirements: excellent command of the English language; excellent command of French Language will be considered as an added advantage
  • Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering or construction management.
