Maintenance Superintendent

Position Overview:

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for managing and directing facility Maintenance and E&I personnel in their day-to-day activities which include, but are not limited to, managing and directing the completion of predictive, corrective, and routine preventative maintenance activities throughout the facility, as well as resolving reactive work such as call-outs and break-ins. Additionally, the Maintenance Superintendent is required to manage mechanical integrity and generate capital asset requests (CARs) for maintenance and sustaining projects. The position leads the problem resolution and troubleshooting efforts related to the plant’s DCS, I&C, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment, while facilitating and optimizing the Maintenance Work Process (MWP) to ensure all resources and equipment required for work are available.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports the pre- commissioning efforts and assists with equipment/process commissioning
  • Executes the commissioning plan for start-up of operations while working closely with the Operations and Commissioning teams
  • Responsible for the preventive maintenance of plant electrical, instrumentation, DCS, mechanical equipment, fixed and piping systems
  • Establishes a system to track equipment reliability performance
  • Facilities the maintenance work process (MWP) to track all ERP maintenance work requests including but not limited to managing:
  • Minor and major repairs of all equipment
  • Managing budgets and overtime
  • Ensures LOTO/Try and safe work permitting is conducted on all activities
  • Ensures availability of parts and equipment needed for planned jobs
  • Manages resources for break-in and call-out work * Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Works with the Senior Buyer for supplies, repair parts, orders parts, etc. as needed
  • Performs other duties as directed
  • Coordinates repair work performed by contractors when necessary
  • Assists other disciplines in the plant as required
  • Manages direct reports and responsible for employee performance reviews and training
  • Builds productive, collaborative, and mutually trusting relationships throughout the organization
  • Emphasizes quality work to self and others to meet established job standards and expectations
  • Maintains an open-door policy at all times and builds relationships with his/her team
  • Reports all safety, environmental, and operational incidents in a timely manner using established documentation and reporting tools provided by company
  • Acts in a manner in accordance with company outlined safety policies, procedures and practices

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology preferred

Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in Chemical Industry required
  • 2+ years of supervision experience required
  • Commissioning of a petrochemical facility preferred

Knowledge:
-Knowledge of standard Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
-Knowledge of the Mechanical Integrity (MI) element of PSM
-Knowledge of process equipment and methodologies used in production environments
-Knowledge of maintenance systems to drive and assist with work order submission and tracking
-Knowledge and understanding of cause and effect relationships in the process
-Understands and observes the management systems of the organization, such as safety systems, work order systems, procedures, guidelines and human resources systems
-Knowledge of organizational goals and metrics
-Understands the necessity to elevate issues to gain support for addressing problems
-Knowledge of processes in place for the training and development of technicians
-Knowledge and understanding of permitting, equipment isolation and PPE policies

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
