This Drilling and Completions Specialist III role provides overall engineering support to the operation from the shore-base and has responsibility for well planning, costing and operations for one or more rigs.

- Provides drilling design input to the Basis of Well Design (BOWD), including the formation evaluation program
- Reviews offset wells and Lessons Learned for input to subsequent well designs and programs
- Prepares portions of drilling program, critical elements list, load out list, contingency plans, and MOCs
- Assists in designing the well trajectory and survey program to meet target requirements set within BOWD
- Perform drill string design and drilling hydraulics to achieve desired well trajectory and required hole size
- Design cement slurry for each casing string to achieve zonal isolation and well integrity
- Design drilling fluid system
- Assist in selection of drilling components to safely drill well such as wellheads and liner hangers
- Works with the metallurgist to ensure metal selections meet well design requirements
- Assists in recommendation of bit and drilling mechanics to achieve maximum ROP within each hole section
- Works with the subsea engineers to incorporate subsea engineering procedures into program and operations
- Leads portions of:
- Well design
- Post-well or post-campaign review
- Evaluation of casing seat, load cases, well architecture, and tubing/casing stress analysis
- Operational time estimates for input to AFE estimate
- New drilling tool technology evaluations and recommendations
- Well integrity
- Drilling input to exploration and development program
- Reviews daily activity reports to ensure accuracy and appropriate level of detail
- Participates in rig-based audits, in support of the Superintendent and HSE Supervisor
- Participates in After Action Reviews and ensures Lessons Learned are captured
- Liaises with Supply to ensure timely delivery of equipment and services to meet operational requirements
- Assists in managing service companies and ensures compliance with contracts
- Participate in service company Performance Reviews
- Evaluate and progress continuous improvement opportunities
- Responsible for retention of critical well records (CEL, tallies, trip sheets, etc.)
- Leads portions of:
- Review of well designs and operational plans at well/pad kick-off meetings
- Supporting operations on a daily basis, ensuring program is followed, and anticipating potential problems
- Evaluating requirements for program changes and raising MOCs as required
- Identifying potential problems and preparing contingency programs as required
- Making recommendations on improvement opportunities
- Well handover process
- Assists in the preparation of well cost estimates, including accurate cost estimate for AFE generation
- Maintains a close track of costs during operations
- Proposes cost reduction initiatives and drives savings
- Leads portions of:
- Preparation of preliminary cost estimate with the required level of accuracy
- Reconciling AFE vs final tracked costs, investigates variances, and updates cost model as required
- Raising requisitions and approving invoices in a timely manner
- Specifies drilling equipment for procurement
- Manages service contracts and resolves and contractual or invoice disputes
- Leads portions of:
- Evaluation of tenders to ensure the best services are contracted at competitive rates
- Inputs and scope of work to tender documents for third party services
- Provides engineering input to quality plans for equipment and service tools
- Leads portions of:
- Ensuring equipment and service tools are manufactured and prepared to QP
- Failure investigation reports and non-compliance reports
- Understands Material Risk Bowties, Critical Controls, and Performance Standards and verifies compliance
- Assists in preparation of well and operational risk assessments
- Participates in HSE incident investigations
- Participate in behavior-based safety programs
- Leads portions of:
- Building HSE into well programs
- Well and operational risk assessments
- Barrier analyses
- Assist in liasing with JVP's on planning and operations
- Leads portions of:
- Permit applications, documentation and submissions to regulators
- Compliance with all applicable regulations
- Drives own technical and professional development
- Mentors and trains office based engineers to where they are able to work independently
- Engineering degree (Petroleum or Mechanical) preferred
- 4+ years in the drilling and completion industry; 2+ years wellsite supervision preferred; engineering and/or operations experience with different well types and/or campaigns
