Description
- This position is accountable for building, maintaining, quality assurance testing, and tuning leak detection Computational Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) systems, and related technologies, to achieve optimal leak detection performance in compliance with applicable regulatory, internal, and pipe line specific requirements.
- This position provides direct support to the Leak Detection Assessment and Support Team with leak analysis and leak detection system support.
- This position provides technical subject matter expert resources to leak detection based projects.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design, construction, implementation, and support of CPM based leak detection systems, including testing, tuning, and installation of production systems.
- Executes applicable procedures, best practices, and guidance documents.
- Completes weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual leak detection system checks to ensure continuous operations of systems.
- Reviews and regularly updates all leak detection model documentation to ensure latest standards and review cycles are followed.
- Monitors production leak detection systems, performs root cause analysis, and implements required updates following Management of Change processes.
- Provides 24/7 backup on-call support to Leak Detection Analysts on a rotational basis.
- Delivers training to members of Leak Detection on leak detection and related technologies.
- Evaluates leak detection systems and develops recommendations to PCSLD Management for additional instrumentation to achieve improved leak detectability with appropriate justification; and assists with submissions into capital budget cycles and long range planning program.
- Participates in the execution and reporting of leak detection sensitivity measurements.
- Provides input into the development and improvements to Leak Detection standards.
- Provides recommendations to Leak Detection Management on the development of new leak detection processes, procedures, documentation and training.
- Delivers onboarding and mentorship to junior members of the Leak Detection Team.
- Participates in developing recommendations for new or improved modelling standards.
- Actively contributes to industry organizations (such as API) focused on evolving leak detection technology and regulations by presenting at conferences and providing input to new industry standards.
- Actively participates in and may lead some department scorecard initiatives.
- Participates in incident reviews, provides technical input and completes assigned corrective actions.
- Provides information and technical expertise in responding to regulatory requests.
- Actively participates in the safety culture.
Required:
- A Professional Engineer, or an equivalent Systems Analyst, with a minimum of 4 years of hydraulic and computer programming experience, that includes at least 1 year directly related to computational pipeline modeling. Credit may be given for higher degrees.
- Advanced knowledge in pipeline hydraulics.
- Previous experience using real-time transient model software and/or statistical modeling software.
- Demonstrated ability to program software in a complex multi-system environment.
- Knowledge of Control Centre operations and SCADA systems is an asset.
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Effective communication, facilitation, customer service, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of SharePoint, VISIO, JIRA, and PI is an asset.
- Understanding of North American leak detection related regulatory requirements such as API-1130, API-1149, API-1175, CSA Z662 Annex E.
