POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer reports to the Lead Rotating Equipment Engineer, and is the technical steward for rotating equipment, heat exchangers, tanks, and mechanical systems and is accountable for supporting system maintenance and improving these systems including all associated documentation. The employee will provide leadership and discipline expertise to less experienced support staff, engineering design, maintenance, and production groups.

KNOWLEDGE

Understands oil and gas transportation, storage, and processing, including health, safety, maintenance, operations, governmental regulations and associated codes and standards. Has knowledge of rotating equipment and mechanical systems, national codes, standards and regulations, and their implementation in operating facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serves as the mechanical systems administrator and provides daily rotating equipment and mechanical systems support to the plant to keep the plant systems operational. 
  • Serves as a plant expert on rotating equipment and mechanical system engineering issues (not limited to risk engineering, system integrity, and applicability to specifications, philosophies and standards) and mentor the support groups (Mechanical Maintenance Supervision and Technicians).  Understand and interpret codes, standards, and regulations that are equipment related.
  • Develops working relationships with other department personnel within the plant in order to seek out opportunities that will add value to each job completed.
  • Reinforces awareness of safety and environmental incidents through frequent job observations by talking to personnel working in the plant.  Responsible for developing or collecting information in support of permit requirements as assigned.
  • Applies extensive in-depth or broad engineering knowledge, skills and practices and basic knowledge of related/interdependent cross family/function experience to perform a variety of difficult assignments.
  • Regularly uses new technologies, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • May serve as a project manager on a small to medium-sized engineering/construction project(s) including leading the work of other professionals and technicians outside of own department
  • With limited guidance, responsible for working on moderately complex engineering assignments/projects.
  • Regularly exercises independent judgment on matters of technical significance including making recommendations to management on approach/options to accomplishing objectives
  • Makes decisions on moderately complex issues regarding technical approach around project components and completion of own tasks/responsibilities. Often operates in ambiguous situations.
  • Regularly makes recommendations on new processes, tools, and services that can impact multiple projects and own job family/ engineering discipline.  Modifies existing tools, techniques, and processes,

 QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS)

  • Education and Certifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years’ experience in an industrial environment in engineering or operations. . Experience with GE LM2500 gas turbines is desirable.  Experience with centrifugal pumps and compressors is required. Experience implementing predictive maintenance strategies such as vibration analysis and lube oil analysis. Experience on hazard evaluations, formal HAZOP training would be an asset. Possesses contract development and negotiating skills and experience in managing technical contracts from inception through execution. Knowledge in CMMS systems.

    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries, and governmental agencies.
    • Able to work with a culturally diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to engineer, operate and maintain the receiving terminal.
    • Possess the personality and ability to relate to and to establish a mutually respectful relationship with 1) management, 2) peers and 3) the various facility level workers (Plant Manager, Plant supervision, and Plant workers) whom are all responsible for ensuring good operations.
    • Organized, planning skills, able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy, able to meet work deadlines. 
    • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. 
    • Accomplished public speaker, able to create and deliver industry-specific presentations. 
  • Computer savvy including Project Management, database, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

The Intermediate Rotating Equipment Engineer is an expert in their field and requires minimal supervision.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Job is performed in an industrial plant environment. 
  • Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
  • Limited requirements to travel, as business conditions dictate.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write. 
  • Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, firefighting, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a background check to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential
