Civil Engineer
GENERAL SUMMARY
We are currently an opening for a Civil Engineer (contractor) for a team of approximately 6-10 Design Engineers (employees & contractors), working within the commercial nuclear industry and under general supervision, performs broad, complex engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods. Provides advanced technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and maintaining structures, systems and components. Provides engineering advice as needed and displays technical competence requiring minimal direction from higher level engineering staff.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs non- routine and varied engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
- Receives minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions.
- Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
- Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making adaptations and modifications.
- Adhere to the organization's nuclear quality program.
- Continues to develop knowledge of organization processes and customers.
- Work on a First of a Kind Project, Lump sum priced contract from detailed design to site installation and commissioning. Works on special projects, as directed.
- Work on lump sum contract. Accept its own budget of hours and deliver the work within or under budget.
- Identify rapid changes and scope creep.
- This contract duration is for the Engineering phase only.
- Produce all the Engineering deliverables required to support the delivery of work packages.
- Review / Verify the Engineering deliverables produced by other team members.
- Execute assigned activities for effective performance and adherence to established policies, objectives and customer standards (quality, duration, effort).
- Work interactively with all Team members (both internal and external to the company) to develop strong relationships and ensure production of high quality engineering products and high customer satisfaction.
- Attend Engineering training with the objective to achieve "0" missed training.
- Contribute to the company's corrective action program (identifying issues & performing actions).
- Participate in Engineering department and section meetings
- Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria. Knowledge of the following codes and standards is a plus: CSA N285.0-12, ASME Section Ill, CSA B51, ASME B31.1, CSA N289.3, CSA Z29 series, CSA N290.3, and CSA N286
- Knowledge and experience with the Engineering Change Control process of Ontario Power Generation and/or Bruce Power.
- Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including such items as training courses and/or qualification cards.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
BS in Engineering and minimum 3 years of engineering experience in highly regulated industry.
Must be able to get their security clearance for working at Bruce Power.
Current Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (P. Eng., PEO), if more than 4 years' experience.
Knowledge of engineering codes and standards related to the Canadian Nuclear Industry or to similar highly regulated industry.
Excellent communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
Demonstrated organizational ability to manage multiple tasks with some challenging budget constraint.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical ability and problem identification/problem resolution skills.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Routine travel will be required between Northern Ontario to the GTA region. Frequency: 1 week every month.
