Hydro-Mechanical Engineer - Vancouver, Canada
My client specialises in technical services in the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors. They require a Hydro-Mechanical engineer for their operations in Vancouver, Canada.
Role:
* Leading and managing the process of engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion.
* Resolving overall design and project execution issues, as required.
* Interfacing with other engineering disciplines involved in projects, as required
* Developing preliminary and detailed designs as well as overseeing and guiding the preparation of mechanical drawings and engineering specifications for construction
* Being an active participant in technical design reviews and calculation checks
* Maintaining good working relationships with the internal stakeholders, including the management team, and clients
* Establishing and implementing improvements to existing methods, procedures and tool sets
* Managing project resource assignments while ensuring a continuous career development of staff
* Based in Vancouver but willing to provide technical support to other waterpower offices
Requirements:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master's an asset.
* A minimum of 8 years of professional experience.
* Design of penstocks (buried penstocks, above ground penstocks and liners)
* Design of gates and mechanical operating systems including (Vertical gates, Radial gates, Bulkheads, Stoplogs & valves)
* Balance of Plant design for hydroelectric facilities including piping and other mechanical systems for turbine generators.
* Hydro turbine design requirements and systems.
* Experience with hoist design (Wire rope hoists, Hydraulic hoists, Gantry cranes)
* Proficiency with Computer Design Tools (Mathcad, AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks) will be considered an asset.
* Experience with hydro turbine performance and condition assessments.
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs.
* Knowledge of Canadian and provincial codes and standards.
* Solid experience in the preparation of reports and specifications is required.
* Experience in quality assurance inspection of mechanical equipment will be considered an asset.
* Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and time lines.
* Registration as a Professional Engineer in BC or other Canadian Province (candidates with strong international experience and eligibility for P. Eng. designation in Canada will be considered)
* Site and commissioning experience will be considered an asset
