Title Installation Technician - Wind

SUMMARY:

The Installation Technician is responsible for ensuring that General Electric (GE) turbines are constructed per approved procedures and are authorized to act in an advisory capacity to GE's construction contractors to ensure proper installation for all components prior to turbine hand over to the commissioning lead.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify that the work is completed in compliance with customer's requirements
  • Follow all assigned Environmental, Health and Safety procedures
  • Supervise the construction of wind turbines
  • Perform installation inspection of completed turbines
  • Repair defects
  • Report policy or procedure violation
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems
  • Submit progress reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have and able to provide GE Installation Technician certification on any of the current platforms.
  • Operate tools, equipment, instruments.
  • Torqing towers, aligning generators, pulling pucks using torque, slam, and large wrenches.
  • Must be proficient in:

o Foundation prep, grout and leveling devices

o Prep, locating, lifting and installation of major WTG components.

o Rotor Assembly: Hub prep and staging, Blade lifting, handling and torqueing.

o Rotor Install: Prep and installation.

o Tower wiring and cable drop.

o Buss bar system prep and installation.

o IIP procedure, LOTO and process.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have and able to provide GE Installation Technician certification on any of the current platforms.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be required to climb a 260 foot (80-100 meters) wind tower, walk across hub and in the event of an emergency repel off. The ladders which you will be using are safety tested to a maximum limit of 300 pounds (150kg) which includes tools/backpack weighing up to 50 lbs (25kg).
